Apparently there was a large underwater volcano in the South Pacific that erupted and now there’s a tsunami warning for all of the southern California coast, in fact it looks like the whole West Coast.

Be careful if you’re out at the beaches.🤙

1-3 footers. We’re headed to the boat in a bit. We get wind waves bigger than that.

A tsunami advisory — meaning "a dangerous wave is on the way" — was issued for the following areas, stretching from southern California to Alaska's coastline, according to the warning center:

  • The California coast from the California-Mexico border to the Oregon-California border, including San Francisco Bay.
  • The Oregon coast from the Oregon-California border to the Oregon-Washington border, including the Columbia River estuary coast.
  • The outer coast of Washington state from the Oregon-Washington border to Slip Point, Columbia River estuary coast, and the Juan de Fuca Strait coast.
  • The north coast of British Columbia, and Haida Gwaii, the central coast and northeast Vancouver Island, the outer west coast of Vancouver Island, the Juan de Fuca Strait coast.
  • The inner and outer coast of Southeast Alaska from the BC-Alaska border to Cape Fairweather, Alaska.
  • South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula: Pacific coasts from Cape Fairweather, Alaska, to Unimak Pass, Alaska.
  • Aleutian Islands: Unimak Pass, Alaska, to Attu, Alaska including the Pribilof Islands.
An advisory was also issued for Hawaii, where boats were reportedly moved out of the water by the tsunami and onto docks. "A tsunami is currently being observed by all Islands' Emergency Management," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center tweeted. "We are relieved that there is no reported damage and only minor flooding through-out the islands."

I could hear Huntington Beach PD Airship's PA from my backyard telling people to get out of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. I was suppose to go skiing this morning in Marine Stadium. Good thing we canceled yesterday. It would have sucked to get to the ramp right as the closed it.

Found this with a Google search...

The reason our risk is low is because the faults in California’s coastal border area (Catalina Island, Newport Beach, etc.) aren’t big enough or long enough to create devastating tsunamis, and SoCal is lucky to have a number of offshore islands and seafloor topography (hills and valleys) that can absorb energy and prevent the the worst from happening.

LOL news is reporting "dangerous one to two foot waves" , Back in the day we would have checked out the surf and decided to go home , not worth paddling out ..... , used to pray for 6 foot sets

Just like Parker, beaches are closed.

Yep, on the west coast it's typically an incoming surge of water looking for a place to go. Not a wave.

My wife worked at San Juan Capistrano Costco when we had that major tsunami that only rinced out DP Harbor a few times. She's had a phobia ever since. Needles to say she's feeling very conformable this time up here in Pinetop.

The police helicopter was going along the beach today announcing it was closed due to a Tsunami warning with "waves up to 2 to 3 feet". I know they are more worried about weird currents and stuff, but that made me laugh. It sounded like something out of a comedy movie.

Dang. That doesn't look like Pismo to me, but it has been a long time since I've been there.

That sucks.
Apparently they were crossing the creek south of the Oceano ramp when the surge came in....washed em UP the creek.
There's some video that surfaced on Face Plant of them getting hauled out...definitely Pismo just doesn't look like it in the pics.
I drive the beach 3 times a week...wish I could have seen that.

Crazy. Must be pretty far up the creek! And clearly without a paddle! 😁

Would have definitely been sight to see.

My bad, that video is not from Tonga, but Indonesia in 2021.
