I noticed the truck was riding really rough on the drive home from the river. So much so that the side mirrors were vibrating. Checked them out when I got home and had this nice little surprise šŸ˜³šŸ˜¬ Thankful we made it home without an issue! Anyway, what's the latest and greatest in tires these days? There was a thread recently-ish, but I can't find it. Currently have Nitto Ridge Grapplers and got just over 50K miles out of them.

Must look cool (aggressive)šŸ˜, but not be noisy.

Iā€™ve always ran the BFG ALL TERRAIN. Never an issue nice and quiet with the aggressive look.

Didnā€™t you just get new Toyo MTs?

I was happy with the Yoko MTā€™s on my truck, but theyā€™re wearing faster than anticipatedā€¦Im gonna flip them on CL or Marketplace while they still have meat on them.

Iā€™ve got some BFG KM3 MTs incoming.
Good tire from the reviewsā€¦some Jeep and Bronco models come with them, so theyā€™re likely gonna have good road manners.

Iā€™m a fan of Toyo Open Country R/T. If you got 50k out of the Nittos, why not get another set?
Definitely not opposed to another set of the same. Just curious if there is something better out there now šŸ˜Š

We put them on in March of 2020. I work from home, so the truck mostly just has river miles.
I edited my post as you replied sorry

I thought you just got new Toyo MTs in another thread? Or different truck maybeā€¦

Nitto tires since about 2011-12 just suck. I could never get over 30K miles on a tire due to the belts breaking causing the tire to go egg shape. They really are a shitty tire. It looks like you have an alignment problem with that kind of wear. I'm guessing the tires toe'd out.
FWIW, I switched over to some boring ass looking old man Michelin LTX tires. I'm on my way to get 100K miles out of a set on my F350 service truck. Never had one issue with them and are wearing nice.

I would try a set of Toyo RT trail, since you want aggressive. Discount has them in stock here in the valley, and you can get them to price match if you find them online cheaper- my neighbor ordered a set of 37s yesterday for his Super Duty.

Iā€™ve been running Toyo Rt. Iā€™ve got 75k mostly highway miles and still have some tread left. Quiet also.

I'll be needing some in the coming months. Been happy with my Toyo RTs. But always up for other options.

I have had the nitto's...currently running the Toyo A/T III's on my 3500 SRW. These will be it for as long as I own the truck... They handle ice/snow, boat ramp, soupy mud etc like nothing..and they aren't loud on the highway. IDK what brand of truck you have...but the dealer blew everyone else out of the water by 400ish $ on a set...

AT3s are hands down the best all-around tire Iā€™ve ever ran.

I had the same torn/separation on the nitto ATā€™s when I had them on my dmax.

Even though toyo is the same parent company Toyoā€™s seem to be better constructed.

I have toyo AT3ā€™s on my f350 & tow heavy. No problems yet.

Toyo AT Trail or Falken had a new AT Trail as well but Iā€™m still a fan of the Ridges!

After 50% wear the Ridge Grapplers get pretty noisy. But they are quiet up to that point.

Might not look as aggressive, but I've got Hankook AT-Ms on 2 different vehicles and they leave nothing to complain about. Great traction, great ride, quiet, long wearing, cheap. I've got Toyos on the Tacoma but they're too new to give a reasonable opinion.

Everything BFG I've had was trash.

This subject comes up often in the Super Duty FB groups and a lot of people have been really happy with the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T. Just something else to consider. I am currently running Ridge Grapplers and am going to try the Mickey Thompsons when it's time to replace.

I had Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my F350 and after 3k miles I had Discount switch them out. They rode like shit, were extremely stiff no matter what I did with air pressure. Put a set of Yokohama X-AT's on it and night and day difference. I've also had Toyo AT3's and had good luck with them when I had my Ram dually.

Toyo just came out with the Open Country RT trail. I put them on the JK. So far really nice. I had the e rated AT3 on the Truck, they were nice too and have a longer tread warranty.

BTW Discount price matches. I had the dealer low ball me and I took it to Discount and they took $600 off their original quote.

Iā€™ve been running the Cooper at3s on the work stuff with great results. Thatā€™s a stockish size. I donā€™t know how they would look on a rim size you have with that profile.

The personal stuff I go with Mickey Tā€™s. Love the look and they hold up well imo.

Also for the price of those tires you have and for it to do that is aggravating and very dangerous imo. If they were 7+ years old I would understand that happening

At this point I think we're tying to decide between the RT and the RT Trail. We don't offroad with the truck, so maybe the RT is the better option?

Awesome - thanks for the input! Any reason why that one would be better?
RT Trail will be better on road, better in wet, a little more fuel efficient, and even quieter without sacrificing any strength or off road capability. The RT might even be discontinued shortly.

RT Trail is less of a mud terrain design and quiet, kind of in between mud and AT . Keep in mind they carry a 45k mileage warranty over the 65k AT3. With your 250 I guess youā€™ll want the E rated.

Time for some new shoes.

I had that happen years ago while I was towing a toy hauler trailerā€¦ā€¦at first I ignored the smaller vibrations and I was like well I do live in Californiaā€¦.Then it got to be too much even for our shitty CA roads so I pulled overā€¦.. same big ass bubble.

Toyo's for me. I usually get around 50k out of the MT's.

Mel, you said no off road, but do you use this vehicle at the launch ramp?

Food for thought. šŸ˜Š

AT3s. Once you get them balanced they are tough to beat. We struggled getting mine to zero out. Good thing is they seem to never get 'out of' balance.

Wifeyā€™s Suburban getting some upgrades, looks like AT3 is at the top of the list if the current Michelin LTXs look ridiculous.

Sheā€™s almost ripped the front bumper off from scraping literally everything, and sheā€™s tired of a bouncy ride from the Fox 2.0s so itā€™s getting UCAā€™s and 2.5ā€ Kings all around šŸ˜Š

whoā€™s UCAs? Cognito? Kryptonite? Any particular model (or package) from them?

Dirt King ball joint UCAs so I donā€™t have to worry so much about maintaining them šŸ‘

Iā€™m just going to run 2.5ā€ King OEM series shocks, off the shelf valving. I have them on my Silverado and she likes the ride quality of my truck.

Iā€™ll source the shocks from CJCā€¦unless they canā€™t get them, then Iā€™ll buy from whoever has stock.

And if I canā€™t find any in stock, then Iā€™ll have CJC order themā€¦then wait 10 years for king to work thru their backlog FML

I ran Toyo Open Country MT for years (both 35's and 37's). They are quiet, great traction in mud and sand, and I got about 47k out of them.

Currently I am running Toyo Open Country AT III. they are quiet and look good (though not as aggressive as the MT's). I ran the AT3 Instead of the MT's because my current truck is stock, and not lifted.

Been happy with both.

Putting on a new set of Falken Wildpeaks tomorrow. 3rd set. 50K miles per set is average.
Several carmakers are equipping trucks/SUVā€™s with those from the factory. Thatā€™s a testament to good on-road manners šŸ‘

How the hell you guys get 50k on a set of tires? I'm lucky to beat 30,, Yes I'm in 4wd everyday and on 8 miles of gravel roads, but still,,,

Just put 37-13.50-20 BFG's on the truck and you do not want to price these,,,,,
