What is a good truck bed tool box or are they all the same? I don't need top of the line since it's for my old truck. I've had a shell and a tonneau cover and both had their pros and cons but I'm thinking about going the bed tool box route this time. I went to Tractor Supply and Lowes but they all look the same. Any tips?

Highway Products, Taylor Wings, Protech are great boxes with the best lock system. UWS boxes look nice. The Lowes and Home Depot boxes crack at the welds and lock break. Weatherguard boxes are okay but still have lock failures. There are deals on craigslist for Highway boxes.

I have a UWS on my work truck, I like it because of low profile and doesn’t obstruct rear vision. Also, it’s probably half the weight of a steel box.

they are not all the same, the best thing you can do is replace the gasket with a silicone one, and all of the locks suck.

I always liked weatherguard, but they aren't the cheapest. I'd look on Craigslist and OfferUp, I've seen some clean ones come for sale for about 50% of new pricing.

Check out Decked for another option. I love mine. With the DBox, they are very modular and you still have use of your bed.

Search Craigslist for Weatherguard. I have bought and sold a few. Bought a set of 3 for $250 used them for 5 years and sold for $450.

I have the one off my last truck sitting here. Just hard to drill holes into the new truck to mount it.

Im looking at getting rid of my spare tire carrier in the bed of my truck and getting a tool box for the bed. They aren't cheap for something decent.

I planned on doing that to my dodge and was quoted 14k
Must of been nice bed. The ones I have on my work rigs were $15K. High sided combo bodies 12' long. Average 8' service bed they have for $6500. Remember if a 1 ton or rated over 10k lbs you will need CA numbers and DOT number pain in the ass.

was it made of gold or some precious metal?

We use scelzi service bodies on our trucks with high sides and 8’ beds and don’t pay anywhere close to that.

Thats a sharp looking truck! This was with the fully enclosed middle and painted to match grey truck. Ended up getting an enclosed trailer . I would like to buy someone' used service body truck at end of this year though

I've been really happy with my stahl body. No lumber rack. 9ft service body. I'll get more photos once the suns out.

8 foot Scelzi bed on my truck. Added a transverse compartment for the front boxes, recessed tie down loops, and a lift gate (1st gen TommyGate). I paid about $12.5k including tax in 2015. Spent another $500 to get the rear leaf springs re arched at Betts. I dealt direct with Scelzi. Going through a dealer may be a less expensive option.

Get a Scezle, we have two and they are extremely durable. They will end up on new trucks before we get rid of them. I think we paid $9k for the high sides, electric door locks and a ladder rack in 2011

Skaugs are really nice. They will custom build anything you want and do the compartments any way you want.

I added the roll top and every truck body manufacturer is currently slammed. Took 8 months waiting and finally paid in advance to get on list. Harbor bodies on these had to upgrade to barrel locks as in a few minutes I had a few boxes cleared out costing me over 10k. My old combo body non high side was a better build it was a SE or Scelzi.
