We are looking at some tritoon options. We have narrowed it down to the powertoon extreme with a 350 in the year range of (00-08). Or a newer toon with an outboard. For the outboard we will probably be in the 150 HP range due to budget. However, it seems we could probably find one in the year range of 2017-2022. We have a height restriction of 8ft (willing to make some trailer mods, small tires, etc). Ideal length would be 24 foot. Average weekend will be 2-6 people, every now and then 8 people.

Usage will be Lake Havasu on the weekends. My question is what is the max speed should I expect in either option? What is the cruising speed I should expect with either option? What option would you go with? Please add any personal experience with with either option. Any brand recommendations are appreciated.

My neighbor has a 22' Bennington with a Honda 150. It runs 42 flat out solo, and loaded down will still do 20's. 4k rpm seems to be a decent balance between getting somewhere, and burning gas for no reason, and it is high teens/low 20's depending on load.

Wife and I have a 24' Bentley, 150 Suzuki. It flirts with 40 solo, but is 1-2 mph faster when loaded down. Same 4k rpm is right at 20 with 6-8 bodies on board.

The Playcraft with the 350 will go approx 48mph.

I would go with the Playcraft with your criteria. If you could swing a bigger OB (250+) I would go that route. My first Tritoon was an I/0 (350 Mag) and current one has a Merc 300 Verado. The OB boat runs better than the I/O IMO.

I agree. If you can swing the outboard, go that route.

The first time you have to do anything to the car motor you will be questioning your life choice.

There is nothing worse than working on the motor in an I/O pontoon boat. I know a few boat shops that won't touch them. Outboard is the way to go.

There is nothing worse than working on the motor in an I/O pontoon boat. I know a few boat shops that won't touch them. Outboard is the way to go.

The last one I had to do a starter on the bill was $4,500. Dropped the center toon , rolled it out from underneath, pulled the motor , replaced the starter, sea pump, bilge pumps, bellows, and put the mess back together.

Should have plugged the hole and bolted a motor on the back.

Pomona show is full of toons, but the prices will blow your mind, and not in a good way.

That's probably a pretty tough call, you'll just have to check with the sales people when checking the different boats. I will say this, I suspect not only would the bimini need to be down, it would probably need to be removed to get into most 8'garages. I'd also recommend the outboard route, but wouldn't be afraid of other engines besides Mercury.

Thanks guys. We went to the boat show. Sounds like we are going to look more for a newer model with an outboard.

The issue we are running into is the garage height. The height is 8 foot. We are thinking of putting the leaf springs under the axels to lower it. Has anyone done golf cart tires? Any other tricks to lower it?

Mine is 28ft...

I don't think it's over 8ft with the bimini all folded up?

Maybe it is?

I've never measured it.
