Fuck me that shit is pricey, so wifey wanted the front deck re done before winter Ok , me but let’s go bigger 10x24 ( was 10x8 ) anyone use severe weather boards ? I framed it today just need deck boards Plus she’s having the whole 5 acres re-fenced fuck me cedar post @ every 8’ horse fence with 2 strands of barb wire On top , got 1 neighbor to go 1/2s we own the back I hope the guy on other side will go 1/2s ? At least no more mending fence

Redid my deck a couple years ago. Went with Trex and their lighting options. Never regret it, but shit is it pricy. Went from an 8x24 wood to 12x24 with 12x16 drop and wrap around the corner of the house.

Looks great. I did the same thing butting all boards into one so you don’t have a bunch of staggered joints.

We have had 2 trex decks installed over the past 20 years in Parker/Havasu and both times the decks have aged terribly, boards turning to sawdust. Both times, the product has been covered by warranty, which is nice - but still a pain to rip out, replace, etc. I’m not convinced the product does well in extreme heat, dry conditions.

I’m now looking at trex alternatives as we redo the deck this winter. Has anyone used the aluminum deck products that are out there? Hard to believe, but they claim to stay cooler in the heat and have lower costs to maintain over time.

I have seen gates fail in Phoenix that were made from trex. I thought maybe because they were using a thinner product, but I think the extreme heat does it in.
