I have always carried some tools in the boat. I see all these lightweight hot rods and wonder what others pack. I keep jumper cables, an wrenches, timing light, ignition tester, multi meter, and an assortment of sockets and wrenches, razor blades and a machete in case someone sucks a rope. All this and a few other tools in two pelican boxes. Also a spare fuel and oil filter. Is this over kill in your expert opinions? What kind of kits do others keep in their boats. Pics would be great.

Not over kill besides maybe the timing light. Jumper cables turned into a mini usb jump box for me. Easier and just in case no one is there to offer help

Harbor freight tool set. Not worried if I lend and don’t get tools back. Quart of engine and drive oil, electrical tape, duct tape, electrical wire kit. And a unlimited tow memebership.

Whenever I do anything on the boat, I try to do it entirely out of the tool bag I carry. Then I know what I can and can’t do, and what I need to have. Since all my boats are merc outboards I have one tool bag that I can carry in any of them.

I also have a bigger jump box and a small lithium one.

A small soft tool bag with enough shit to tear the engine down to a long block, jumper wire, stainless retaining wire and a couple spark plugs. I have seen two spark plugs blow out the insulation before on different occasions.

I've always thought I'm a little overboard, in my defense pretty much all of this came from either myself or someone in out boating group needing one of these items to get back to the dock at one time.

A few spare inline filters
Spare fuses for the electric fuel pump
a few spare spark plugs
cap and rotor
spare transom plugs
1 quart motor and 1 quart outdrive oil
A timing light
A cheap multi tool set I bought at wal mart with a few other items the set doesn't have. It's all cheap stuff as it's only to get me back to the dock, I have more and better stuff at the house.
Hi temp RTV
Silicone
Jumper cables
And this year as an xmas present from my wife a compact jump starter
knife to cut rope
Hose clamps
Wire ties
spare nuts bolts washers and o rings

mash on it

Get an ammo can. Soak the rag in wd40. Put it in the can with your tools. Keeps them from rusting even if they get wet.

I thought I was the only one to bring enough tools to rebuild an engine, now I feel like I fit in, oh, I also carry a spare MSD ignition, lol.

Good topic, i'm building one for my boat right now as well.

+++ assorted hose clamps, assorted zip ties (including a few stainless steel), assorted harbor freight throw away tools.

And for the record, I'll skip the machete, no one in my crew is sucking rope!

Never say never. I had not seen a rope sucked in 20 plus years. Then I let someone else grab my anchor. He split the rope and said I was clear. My bad for not checking. Machete reaches up in there though. I like the wd40 on rag idea.

I keep one identical to this in my boat. Plus a little clear sided lure box with my spare stainless hardware.
