I'm certainly no expert on routes to and from the river, but I wanted to try something off the beaten path.
So on our return trip from Cottonwood, we took the following and were stoked on the scenery. . .
- 164 west from Searchlight past Nipton
- (left) on Ivanpah Road South to Morning Star Mine Road (R)
-Kelso Cima Road to Kelbaker Rd South
-Right on National Trails Highway (66) to Amboy Road South
- Then left on Adobe to get on the 62 west (29 Palms Highway) . . . spits you out on the 10 near the wind farm.
Really cool to see something different, I can see why that is the 'Mojave National Preserve' really cool area. Crazy how much of that area burned.
Not sure I'd want to do it in blistering heat . . . kinda sketch in terms of 'nothing for miles' and if you had a flat, the lack of shoulders could be rough.
. . . was gonna post a pic. of the donkey I took in the F-150 pulling the 'Silver Toaster' who insisted on tailgating me for 10 miles even when I bumped it up to 65 pulling my boat through the whoops section. Dickhead passed me doing 70+ in a pretty sketchy zone, only to realize there was a couple RV's in front of me going even slower. Told my Dad, "If that fucker wads-it-up. I'm not stopping to help".
Cool Route none the less.
