so this guy has been circling the channel for about half a hour this morning
looks like someone is taking/filming a head count.
I wonder what Guberment agency is going to try and restrict boating this time

doubtful a sheriff would do that, so leads me to believe private.. fits the M.O. of a local collector that likes to pop up from behind the hills at Steamboat and scare the crap out of everyone..LOL

Maybe it was just a regular helicopter and the owner decide to slap sheriff stickers all over the side of it and take a joy ride through the gorge.

n834sb whatever they were doing they turned the transponder off during flight so tracking stopped or they landed.. dunno. flight originated from bullhead/laughlin.
Is it legal to turn off the flight tracker ?

I really dig it when they fly the gorge or run down low along other parts of the river. Can’t tell you how many times we’ve been running and buzzed by planes or helicopters. That dude with the Huey cobra out there likes to run low too.

We were chillin on the sand bar a bunch of years ago and an Apache landed on the sand bar. Dudes jumped out and hung out for a bit. It was bad ass.

Yup. Most of the time on our weekday sandbar hangouts the Apache's would be up. Very common for them to run nose down not to far off the deck right over us. It was awesome and the kids would go nuts.

Depends.

I don't know if flying lazy circles over Havasu on a holiday weekend reaches the level of "sensitive operations"... LOL...

Not required in certain airspace

Flying in the airspace over Havasu below 10,000’ ADS-B is not required to be operational

United States

ADS-B is now required when operating overall 48 continuous states, within airspace at or above FL 100 (excluding airspace from 2,500 ft. AGL). At or below FL100 ADS-B will be required:

But if ADS-B is installed, it must be "On"...

But nothing preventing the operator from turning it off so as not to be tracked….flying below 2000’ AGL through the Topock gorge is also not technically legal….it is within a National Wildlife Preserve…..

Was a Sheriff chopper. He came really low by the house and we could see the markings.

Last November, we had a float plane drop in on us, about 50 yards of my starboard side. He was 2-3 feet off the lake, our speeds were matched perfect.

Cool deal.

Had a chopper scare the shit outta me on like Wednesday before DS. Just driving along 85 or so and he completely shaded the boat he was so close. He took a few shots, shot me a thumbs up and off he went.

I think running with the copter is maybe my most favorite boating thing to do (besides running offshore in big water 😁) It’s just really cool with the copter flying so low next to you you feel like you could reach out and touch it. Bad ass

Being a helicopter fanatic, it’s one of my favorite things seeing them NOE, carving the gorge.

I've seen choppers and jets at Havasu many times. I think it is bad ass. I also remember several times at Glamis sitting at Oldsmobile Hill and the Rescue chopper "shooting the hill" it was awesome. One morning in Glamis a buddy and I were out on an early morning ride, and stopped on top of peak for a break. Once the Bikes were shut off we heard the sound of a jet.....he was actually flying below us. We waved our arm in his direction and to our surprise and delight, he turned and did a low level pass over the top of us. Wish I could have gotten a pic.

I saw two private black choppers this weekend, a smaller one and a larger one with dual rear stabilizers or whatever they're called. Badass and were doing low passes

Saw that once at the river, but it happens frequently over my house (I'm 6000ft from the end of the runway at Long Beach Airport)...Fleet week is daily flyovers....I love it.
