HOA’s are where people go after serving on Little League/Pop Warner boards. Same power trip. I almost feel bad for the poor girl at the property management place that sends the letters, almost.

That being said, i don’t hate the fact that there are some standards. Yards have to be kept up, no cars on blocks, no crazy colors, etc.

They can be a pain .
Just don’t get on their bad side .
Kept the house looking good

I have been on 2.
I got in more arguments with board members the owners.

First was the president. I joined the board after being notified for years the alarm system upgrade was being delayed. Got on the board and told the president he was pathetic for taking over 3 years to get quotes. New security system was installed within 6 months.

Second - was the lake association in WI when I was majority owner of the family cabin. Treasurer wanted a 25k per house assessment to fix the public ramp. Mind you, we had a private ramp to use. That ended with me filing a lawsuit against the board. I won and I got the state to fix the public ramp.

After those to experiences I avoid all HOA boards

HOAs are the devil you know vs in a non-HOA community where anything goes.

I was in an HOA that was so badly run that a buddy and I took over - I was the president and he was the treasurer. Good news; bad news. The good was we knew and controlled how the $ was being spent. The bad is that we had to do the work and worst of all, dealt with neighbors that we never, ever would have anything to do with otherwise. Some actually told us we worked for them so we made it very clear that we volunteered for the jobs but that didn't mean we had to take their shit. One Karen called my wife and yelled at her on the phone. I visited her and her husband and made sure they never spoke to us again.

Neighbors painted their house Yellow and the president of the hoa and his 'friend' flipped out! They tried implementing new rules on acceptable colors for houses in the hood, the gated ghetto is what the realtors call this community. Mind you this house has been yellow since I've been here (over 20 years) and has most likely been yellow for the better part of 40 years or more. I need to come up with a pleasing colour that will not cause me any grief as I don't want to paint it twice! I'm going to ask @old rigger for advice since he's gelled boats and such and is close by.

I'm not here searching for advice per se but I am here to bitch about others negativity! 😂

I always find blues and pinks offensive. Yellow comes pretty close.

Emotions and opinions don’t mean shit. Read the CCCRs word for word that’s what, and only what you need to live by.

I was asked by the founders of Moonridge to get on the board and fix things. It was pretty screwed up but I did the Trump drain the swamp thing, lol made a few enemies whom I couldn’t give a shit about and fixed the place. Later my wife cleaned up the finances before we left. HOA suck, it’s a weird phenomenon of human dynamics that is generally filled with lack judgment, lack of common sense and ineptitude.

Looks like Moonridge is having a uprising or sorts right now. I won't mention any names but it’s aha been some interesting posts the past couple of days. :)

Ha ha. I think the folks running it are the same as when I came in to fix things. I don’t think they can find their ass with both hands in their back pockets. 🤡

Where are the post I’d love to see it. I heard the keys manager quit as manager of MR.

Ha former Porn star? He was always a challenge to keep off boil.
He is funny gotta give him that. If his LA house was in an HOA he wouldn't be having such problems with his neighbors across the street parking their VW in front of his house leaking oil everywhere. 😁

Moonridge was a weird place and maybe just a slice of the river. One neighbor was the CEO of Food-maker ( jack in the box) in San Diego and the other neighbor had his tweeker addict friends over for the weekend. On one side I had a multimillionaire accomplished executive and on the other side I had people talking to the rocks in the front yard, literally .

We just tried to expose my son to skiing, boating and the river and exit.

My dad was president once upon a time as well. did a lot to clean things up before selling in 2010. My greatest childhood memories (and some adolescent ones too) are from Moonridge.

Got a letter from ours in CC about trash can times.....been down that road a few years ago...trash is Friday...we are usually gone Friday through Monday...so ill throw the neighbor kid a few bucks to deal with it....

Best HOA story I have was actually a customer.....Her HOA was led by an early 80's elderly lady....who responded to our construction notice about adding solar. She CC'd the board....and asked "Can the panels be painted to match the roof" bc they were not appeasing. Im sure I still have the email somewhere saved....but I simply responded back that we would be "happy to paint the new panels any color of their choosing however the power company, lender, homeowner, and feds would likely not be happy due to the 100% loss in production.... I cc'd the board, and customer. Had my approval and "proceed as is" in less than 15 min... Some people.

Another one was a solar water install...had been up like 7 years. new person across the street got on the board and sent notice to remove or relocate to rear of home. Went over like a fart in church. Customer was an attorney and they paid quite a bit back in legal fees to him and it stayed as is. Much like politicians the elderly should not be on HOA boards lol

I can see both sides.
No HOA here.
On one hand, the family across the street has had their Christmas lights up for going on 4 seasons.

On the other o can’t accept getting a ticket or fines if the HOA Karen see’s me doing the brakes on my truck...in my drive way.
My, drive way.

Or I want to have a Toy hauler parked out front for more than 25 hours.

I sure don’t want some dick painting his house pink or something that for sure.
But 🤷‍♂️

Kids ride dirt bikes and quads through our neighborhood. I like that.
A 14 - 15 year old kid being a kid.👍
Or, a 54 year old kid being a kid on occasion😇

I got a fine from our old HOA back in 2015...with a photo of us...loading coolers into the boat we had in the driveway (boat was kept in garage). Fine was for storing a boat in the drive...my ex was in the pic holding a cooler I just handed to her. What made it better is they would send the fine notice to your lender, or any co-owner. Well her parents were our lender... Yea that was fun.

I was on one of those boards too. It was funny as to who was on the board and their thought process or lack there of. I was brought in by the managers and a few on the board as the VP to keep the bleeding heart liberal school teacher out of the position that she thought she owned. It was pure gold. LOL

Then there was the next fight at future property. As you said the CCCRs is what I read before I bought. Followed them to a T. Built a few planters in the front yard. Within CCCRs. Get the letter that I am in violation. Have a bit of a back and forth Letter writing campaign. Then they told me I was right. HAHahahah

We were in one in NC that was a bit of a mess. When we bought we had an choice to join or not join. If you didn't join, you couldn't use the pool, if it ever got built. We joined.

Pool was built a year or so in, Board was developed a few years later. Had many neighbors beg me to get on the board - Nope - I'm not doing it.

We moved a few years later - Will never join an HOA again. Ever - Even though we really had no issues.

If I was leaving the boat in the drive way for a weekend or whatever we would always email the company that handled the fines and complaints in advance in case anyone complained, always told us thanks for letting us know and never heard a peep.

I did have one neighbor who ironically I became decent friends with (still to this day) come and tell me I'm not allowed to park my park in my yard, while I was shoveling dirt out of the back of it to fill landscaping. I told him to get the F out of my yard. He did, and I think we ended up playing cards later that night.

If you can hear or see your neighbors they are too close.... :p

and I could care less what color someone paints they house. It's their house. Freedom to paint it whatever cool and or disgusting color they want. Or it should be.

…Having 100 acres to myself at Lake Oroville meant no HOA… I could do whatever I wanted…worked well for 21 years…but then my health got in the way…A few years later the entire 100 acres burned to the ground…😳🤷🏽‍♀️…Oh well???…

I cant see what the original complaint was but I am on our HOA board and I will not run again. I wanted to help maintain our greenbelt and Marina and keep costs down by doing all the electrical work, welding and any other trade I can self-perform. Well apparently according to home owners that let their grass over grow and leave their trash cans out its my fault because I must be a liberal and a Nazi and I am getting rich off of volunteering my time and tools to the neighborhood. The first year I donated about $10K worth of work. This year nothing. I am done trying to help people.

People dont understand how much work it takes to grow 55 acres of grass in the desert, keep water in 7 lakes and keep a marina dredged and working.

We primed a house with a tinted primer in an hoa neighborhood on a Friday. Primer was a terrible aqua color. House was empty, getting a huge remodel.
Get a call from the builder late Friday night wanting us to go spray over it the next morning. Homeowners were getting blown up by neighbors and the hoa about the color. Builder got his ass chewed. Bunch of BS.
Sure. We will work on Saturday. You paying the overtime?
Builder ended up tarping off the entire front of the house Saturday morning.
Shot the hoa approved color Monday.
We did start in the back so everyone could enjoy it as long as possible.

I'll never live behind a gated community again.... Newport Coast in late 90s..... I put one of those temp basketball hoops up at foot of driveway for kids. Only 10 houses behind the gates and tons of kids, they all played before school most days and I get a letter. A letter from neighbors whose kids play each day. Retards behind gates.... never again.
