There's a nice view in the night sky this evening. The crescent moon is moving across the southern sky, and above it and to the west a bit is the planet Jupiter. Saturn is also nearby, but a little more difficult to spot because it's not as bright as Jupiter.
Further to the west is Venus. It's shining brightly, reflecting the Sun's powerful light as it moves toward the horizon. Venus will set around 8:30 Havasu time.
Following the moon and Jupiter is the constellation Orion. The Earth has tilted toward the Southern Hemisphere as winter approaches, and that brings Orion into view.
Orion is the first constellation I picked out of the night sky when I was a small kid, and I always look forward to the time of year that it appears. The dog star, Sirius, follows Orion. It's to the left and lower of Orion's jeweled belt, and it's one of the brightest stars in the winter sky.
