Recently I've been experiencing something that I think is a bit odd. I can hear my heart beating (sort of). The sound that I'm hearing is in my Right ear and it's not the actual thump, thump, thump of the heart but rather I'm hearing the blood rushing through my arteries, kind of a swoosh, swoosh sound. I used to occasionally hear something like this but only briefly and now it's constant and starting to drive me crazy.

Have you changed any blood pressure or diabetes meds lately, or are you noticing any more stress inducing events? Some people can notice a slight elevation in blood pressure this way, and some can also notice this when allergies or such effect sinuses.

Blood pressure is good so no meds for that or diabetes. Cardiologist says i'm in pretty good shape.

I had the same experience. Turns out it was a bad valve. No thump thump thump, rather swish swish swish. Zipper down my chest and all back to normal. Hope that isn’t your case.
I think I’m ok in that dept. ekg, echocardiogram, and two different stress tests revealed nothing other than a little plaque build up and even that has been improving.

I had the exact same thing in my left ear, which has now turned into the thump thump of my heartbeat. Thankfully it's not all the time, but definitely hinders going to sleep. After multiple tests/scans/ekg's/nuclear stress test, etc. turns out I have mild cases of Nonrheumatic aortic valve stenosis and hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy which "could be" what's causing the noise in the ear. Which I have learned means that the aortic vavle doesn't open and close as well as it should and the wall/muscle between the chambers of the heart has thickened. Both of which in my case is caused by high blood pressure. I turn 53 this year and I've been taking bp meds for over 20 years. So far, there is no fix and because my issues are so mild, there's nothing to do but monitor it over the next few years.

You just have to train yourself to ignore it like background noise.
If everything checks out ok, then what DHR said is right on. It's what I'm still learning to do. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

It's pretty loud. trying to drown it out isn't easy and trying to sleep with it is extremely difficult.
Tinnitus can be a loud MF'r...or mine just echoes in my empty head? It's hard to explain, but the term "deafening silence" really makes sense. It seems the loudest when there is nothing else.

A little white noise machine on the nightstand helps with the faint bothersome sounds like that, and partner's light snoring, neighborhood noises, birds squawking etc.

Dreamegg on amazon is like $18

You could try getting a white noise generator to help you sleep. In my case I use a desk fan, then it’s not quite so distracting with the fan running and if I’m not thinking about it, I can go to sleep.
