Well finally made it down to the Peterson museum and into the vault to visit a few old friends. The galaxie and the 64 Chevelle we built for a really good customer who passed away shortly after we finished them. The widow donated them to the museum. First time I have been in the vault and som pretty cool shit down there.

And the gasser still has a cammer in it too.
Yes it does. That one may leak a little, and not too driveable...but damn, it's a legend. Always wondered who ground the cams for the "race" SOHC's.

A "normal" one sounds pretty nasty. Don't know who owns it now, but once Art Chrisman came rolling up in an orange shoebox Ford. It had been one of Reggie Jackson's cars. Nasty sounding, mild pro street, cammer.

The last shop I worked at we did the
Round Door. I came on at the tail end. pulling all nighter‘s to get it done. Took it to pebble and it got there and they’re like nope. Turnaround drove it all the way back to Monrovia. Legend has it they were working on it in the trailer going down the road lol I’ve driven it. It’s a beast. Car is pretty much disliked by the Rolls-Royce community because it was bodied by a bus builder. Jonckheere

Rarified air down there in the vault, that had to be an amazing experience. THANK YOU @bonesfab for sharing it with us serfs.

Can anyone explain the economic/tax model that results in so many "private collections/museums" that are rarely open to the public?

I understand the Peterson donation model, but have yet to meet anyone that was willing or could explain the semi public/private collection model.

A buddy is actually working on getting me set up to do one. Supposedly only has to be open to the public 6 days a year. The tax advantages are crazy from what I understand. We will see.

I always thought the round doors had a certain "Dick Tracy" or "Cruella DeVille" quality...I really like them!

That looks like it used to be an old bomb shelter...

Longo Lexus looked exactly like that back in the day. The service department and new car parking were all underground. And we had those same huge concrete pillars all over the place.

Anyone know if this is an old bomb shelter as well?

It is 60k sqft. I believe it is an old underground parking garage.

… That it is… But I remember the car being all pearl white and not having any blue in it???…
… not only was that car beautiful when it appeared on the drag racing scene… But it was also really fast and quick👍
