Good luck with your project! I am a big fan of keeping the old boats in the family and making them new again!. Keep us posted on your progress, I found this site last December and it helped me get some inspiration back to finish my 20, the guys on here are great and can offer a lot of history and some good advice on any questions that may come up.

Looks orriginal to me Dave. If they did the 18s like the 20s, the trim color was shot behind the main color so if you were to peel/sand the white off his boat, there would be red. On mine, it's white, with orange trim, and on the sides where there is trim, there is orange gel under the white, then a coat of blue that I'm guessing was just to hide and maybe promote adhesion or somethimg to the first layer of mat. On the very bottom of the hull, they didn't seem to waste the orange gel by backing the white with it, but they did it for sure on the entire side of the boat as I've been down to glass in a couple spots to make repairs and have noted the color transition.

Sounds like a common story. My dad originally bought my Spectra 20 from Burbank Marine in '79. Last year, he told me he was more or less going to give it away, or donate it. The next week, I drove to Houston, Tx, Latched on to it, brought it back to Arizona, and put my Caribbean in the driveway with a 4sale sign on it.
Too many great memories in the Spectra to let it go.
I spent the winter on it to get it ready to get wet this summer, but will be an ongoing project.

That's rad. Always nice to see a project reach a certain stage of completion. I follow lots of refurb threads that end with a big question mark leaving me wondering what happened to the project. Your boat looks very nice! How was Shasta? I heard the water level dropped 10' in the last 30 days.

Aloha
