Panteras are one of my all time favorites...
Almost bought one many years ago...

I came to the realization that guys 6ft 2" just dont fit in cars that are designed for 5ft 6" people...

I even sat in one that had the 3" drop pan conversion, and still didnt fit...

Prefer the original as well. This one looks good but too much gold for my taste.

I think I'd rather have an original Pantera

That is like saying you like the Countach more than the Huracan. Friend has a 73/4 Pantera, a anniversary Countach & 92Diablo, few Vipers, a Ferrari, Maserati Quattroport and a grocery getter Bentley. The old Pantera rides like shit, a crude machine, albeit easy to work on.:) The others are old school as well but no comparo to the modern cars as quality goes. My all time favourite modern supercar is the Pagani Huayra with AMG B engine.

A Pantera was on my bucket list since high school (1970-74). The day after I sold my company I went to a shop in the city or Orange that does nothing but refurbish Panteras. Tried to cram my 6'4" 230lb carcass into one that had been modified with the dropped pan, a racing seat (fiberglass and 1" foam), the pedal bulkhead moved forward 6", . . . I was on my hands and knees trying to get in and finally accepted my fate. Went out and bought a new truck instead.

Well, by that reasoning you may as well go out and buy a new Honda Civic. They are faster 0-60 and have every creature comfort ever imagined. The Countach to Huracan comparison doesn't work either because the Huracan actually looks good. I'm sure the new DeTomaso works much better then its much older sibling, but when I walk out in the garage I'm still slapped with the reality that it looks like something from the 1964 World's Fair...
:D

People keep saying they like the original better. ?????? This IS the original. De Tomaso never built a P72 before. De Tomaso built a number of different cars in the past, Pantera, Mangusta etc. never a P 72

PI Motorsports in Orange on Batavia. They had maybe a dozen or so inside the shop at that time, all in different stages of refit.

I sometimes wonder if crawling on my hands and knees to get inside would have really been all that bad. :p

I used to restore panteras for Mike Mayberry. He would buy 5 to 10 every year.It was cool when they started putting modular motors in them.when I was working for him around 2003 he started selling them for 50,000+ if you look now there worth 100,000+.

I love the look of the Pantera and even had serious wood for them about 10-12 years ago and almost bought one. That is until I drove one more than just around the block and did some time on the road and freeway. It has to be one of the most uncomfortable cars ever built. Since the wheel well intrudes into the footwell, if you're not working the clutch there's no place to put your left foot - you can't tuck it under the pedal or pull it back since the seat just about sits on the floor. That changed my mind forever and I bought a Z06 Vette, it felt like a Cadillac in comparison, but after a year I got tired of the cockpit being hot, noisy, and a pain to get in and out of, I actually preferred to drive my Silverado 2500HD to the Vette. Now I've got the CTS-V and to me, it strikes the right balance - it's comfy and it hauls ass!

Rather have the original as well!

I had my hand in a pretty trick build when I was younger. Not sure you would consider this original though! ;)

Google "Notycat Pantera" if you want to see more photos

Ahh when Evo was a young shop pup...
