How has vegas been doing? I was following a page called @casinocompwallet and he would give the low down on vegas albeit with a slight bias. He had bleak outlook for the fountain bleu and especially hated on resorts world. Do you think they need the expansion such as the proposed designs show

Damn. I don't care doesn't affect me after all, but I have good memories from the Mirage. First hotel I was ever upgraded to a penthouse suite with all the amenities was the Mirage. And the volcano was the coolest thing as a kid

Just by chance I'll be in Vegas that final weekend. I'll be sure to go check it out one last time. Good memories there.

And Vegas Vacation took place there!

Are they imploding it or just giving it a face lift with large guitar?

2027 is not a long time for completion
Vegas is built on money. They could do construction 24/7 to get it done that fast since they’d make so much more than it would cost.

I just bid that job and will be there on Monday for a meet & greet with both GC’s. The new Hard Rock is going to be impressive and perfect for The Strip.
You might know my daughter.
She's doing the remodel at the Rio.
3 year project.
She does a lot of remodels for casinos and restaurants in Vegas.

Complete revamp of the existing hotel, removing the volcano, the guitar is a 23 story hotel in the shape of a guitar being built where the volcano is/was.
Isn't there already a Hard Rock in Vegas? I had to Google it threw me for a loop--yes there is and the new guitar is being built next to it lol duh. Nice gig for the people in the trades there, seems Vegas is a good place to be also if you're in the sound and visual effects biz.

As far as the hotel, funny but I actually don't even know what the Hard Rock brand means, I don't think I've ever been inside one. People seem to love the brand and I see shirts everwhere. Are their "cafes" something like a rock version of a house of blues? I never understood those places, seemed dumb to me. Everytime I've been to a House of Blues I was listening to a band that was anything but blues and the food in these types of places suck. I'll take a real concert and then after go to a real bar/restaurant any day of the week where I can actually have a conversation while I eat and drink.

Hard Rock had actual restaurants at one point. They served typical American food, a lot of bar food type stuff as well as entrees. They were decorated with a lot of rock and roll memorabilia, their food items were sometimes named for bands or guitars or other instruments.

Very similar to the Planet Hollywood restaurants that followed them, those were obviously movie themed.

Both tanked and have pretty much disappeared from the restaurant landscape.

However I believe each have casinos in Vegas and Reno I believe.

I used to eat at the hard rock in Vegas after attending COMDEX all day. I never gambled at their casino it was just good food (at the time).

I may have met her. Typically I’m not on the job sites themselves unless they’re unique in size like stadiums, high rise buildings, hotels, etc.

I’m a National Acount Sales rep for a large construction rental equipment company so I’m a vendor to the trades themselves. Not actually swinging a hammer. I usually find myself in a corporate headquarter setting but this job is quite unique and the GC’s asked to meet me on the project itself.

It’s a $2B project so my portion of the overall potential revenue will likely be $50M-60M. That’s top line revenue, not bottom line lol. It’s a much smaller number that you actually pocket at the end of the project of that potential $60M, a lot smaller 😂

I still haven’t won the bid whatsoever and my competitors are highly talented individuals but there’s so many billions of available construction dollars available in the Vegas market alone that is getting ready to come out of the ground that there’s more than enough opportunity in that market for all of us to do really well for ourselves in the coming years. It’s pretty impressive really.

This is a flagship Hard Rock. The only one like this Hard Rock is the one in Florida. The current Vegas hard rock isn’t in the best location. This one will be much bigger and on the strip itself.

So you rent out cranes, and forklifts and such?

wow, 50-60 mil in equipment rentals...

That would be on the high end, but I can see it being well into the millions...

Scissor lifts, forklifts, zoom booms, probably renting specialty items like welders, core drills, and demo saws. Not only that, but they're not going to rent to the GC, (GC might not even self perform), but all of the trades and contractors on the project.

That’s mid range. I’ve got the numbers down to the penny’s give or take with todays analytic capabilities and IT technology. It’s not much different than bidding rebar or concrete or anything else.

Do the subs figure on renting their own equipment. Or do they have to go thru who the GC picks. Isn't Ahern based in Vegas?

They still have the guitar out front from the old hard rock if I remember correctly?

Guitar is gone. I stay at the Virgin once a month for work. I still like it and it is a Hilton hotel so I get all the Diamond upgrades. One of the dealers told me on my last trip that they are bringing back the "circle bar" in the middle so that's cool. Table minimums are not crazy, good food, room service, free valet and all the people there know me so its cool. I hate being on the strip. BUT, that side of town (Paradise & Harmon area) is turning quite ghetto at night.

I always thought that place was pretty cool but, you’re right, it’s getting pretty shady over that way after-hours.

I’m a Marriott guy so if I’m staying near the strip I usually do the Park MGM since MGM and Marriott have a partnership. It’s okay and the rooms are fine. It’s a non-smoking casino which I like but they have some pretty cool restaurants. Not cheap restaurants but they’re good.

If my business meetings aren’t near the strip I usually stay way out at Lake Las Vegas. I love that area.

This was the view from my room last time

Take Luxor with it….other than being a triangle, it’s anything but Egyptian royalty
Funny. When I was a like 18 we stayed at Luxor. It was brand new. Sideways elevators and that huge interior. They opened it with “new tech” motion rides and virtual stuff and a water ride through the interior. Guess all that shits gone. Haven’t been there since.

I agree, it's pretty bad shape inside and has been for a while

cheap rooms during covid really wore out a lot of hotels in Vegas.

Oh man, the Mirage used to have a little lounge smack dab in the middle of the casino. Would have a live Reggae/Cover band that was GREAT and would be PACKED with Cougars! Me and my buddys were like 19 with Fake ID's. Living it up, music sounding good, buzzed!. Thats where I was taught about all the different drinks the Cougars would order me. Singapore Sling. Sex on the Beach. Shit was tasty back then.

Great fucking times. Take me back!

I heard it’s pretty shot out.

I haven’t been to Vegas in like 10 years though.

I bought Mirage stock shortly after opening. My first and last Vegas stock. The stock tanked as Steve Wynn bought high dollar art and such. Took the loss after a year or so.

I did not know United bought Ahern. Crazy

Nobody in the industry was surprised. Their business model was the most horrendous thing I’ve ever seen. It’s a miracle it ever survived to begin with.
