It looks tasty on the billboards I see around town. Then I read this. Now I realize that not every chemical used in other things is bad... Sure Dihydrogen Monoxide can kill you... but you need it to live. So some of this article is just bullshit hype to sound dramatic. But there is a lot of gross stuff in this food.

The 70 Ingredient Cancer-promoting McRib Sandwich: It’s Not Real Food

McRib-798x418.png

If you visit McDonald’s often, maybe you should reconsider.
McDonald’s is fantastic at marketing. Thanks to their amazing marketing strategy, their McRib sandwich has gathered an enormous following. McRib was originally introduced in 1981 to their special menu and has been a menu item off and on since. It has made a comeback and reached superb popularity in 2013.

The trouble is that McRib contains over 70 ingredients. Why is that troubling? McRib supposed to be composed of a bun, a barbecue patty, pickles, and onion. That’s 4 ingredients, not 70. Where is the rest coming from? And what does it do to your body?

McDonald’s’ McRib Ingredients
According to McDonald’s website, the list of ingredients include:

The McRib Pork Patty
Ingredients: Pork, Water, Salt, Dextrose, Preservatives (BHA, Propyl Gallate, Citric Acid).

In the pork, you can’t find quality meat either. It is all restructured meat from the insides of pigs including their heart, tripe, and scalded stomach cooked and processed. The processing removed all salt-soluble protein and congeals creating a rubbery patty that seems like the real thing. It also includes propyl gallate and BHA, which are preservatives that can lead to thyroid, urinary, and bladder carcinogenesis, stomach hyperplasia, and cytotoxicity.

The McRib Bun
Ingredients: Enriched Flour (Bleached Wheat Flour, Malted Barley Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Water, Yeast, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Contains 2% Or Less: Salt, Corn Meal, Wheat Gluten, Soybean Oil, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and/or Cottonseed Oils, Dextrose, Sugar, Malted Barley Flour, Cultured Wheat Flour, Calcium Sulfate, Ammonium Sulfate, Soy Flour, Dough Conditioners (Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, DATEM, Ascorbic Acid, Azodicarbonamide, Mono- and Diglycerides, Ethoxylated Mono- and Diglycerides, Monocalcium Phosphate, Enzymes, Guar Gum, Calcium Peroxide), Calcium Propionate (Preservative), Soy Lecithin.

Aside from containing wheat and soy, which are common allergens, they are filled with high fructose corn syrup that can lead to pancreatic cancer and other health issues. It also has ammonium and calcium sulfate which is also used as a soil fertilizer, azodicarbonamide for dough conditioner that is also used to manufacture foam plastic and is banned in Europe and Australia.

The McRib Sauce
Ingredients: Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Tomato Paste, Distilled Vinegar, Molasses, Natural Smoke Flavor (Plant Source), Modified Food Starch, Salt, Sugar, Spices, Soybean Oil, Xanthan Gum, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Chili Pepper, Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Caramel Color, Beet Powder. This is a long list. Check for the high fructose corn syrup and refined sugar again!

Pickle slices
Ingredients: Cucumbers, Water, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Calcium Chloride, Alum, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Natural Flavors (Plant Source), Polysorbate 80, Extractives of Turmeric (Color).

Even the pickle is not a pickle but contains potassium sorbate, which is a genotoxic and mutagenic compound, among other ingredients.

If People Knew, Would They Still Eat It?
While the nutrition information is available, if you do some digging, it is certainly not advertised. The fantastic McDonald’s makes you think that this is a simple meal with a few easy ingredients. If people knew what is in their food, they may boycott McDonald’s. The chain has already been shut down and banned in Bolivia, Bermuda, and Iceland. Eventually, the company will have to change or shut its door in other countries as well. Until then, you can make the personal choice, not to eat at McDonald’s.

Dihydrogen Monoxide???? Good God man! Do you know how people that chemical kills every year?
It really needs to be regulated, world's most common solvent.

I was gonna say I’m not a chemist, but... lol

Just gonna go ahead and say it.... if you're willingly choosing McDonalds you've already given your last fuck.

This is like preaching to dudes who're raw dogging bar chicks, you're wasting your breath.

"raw dogging" noted.

My kids love going to McDonalds because of the play ground.. I ate my last Big Mac a few weeks ago. It had been probably 6 months since the last time I ate there and said I would never do it again.

Honestly it's not even food anymore. My stomach was in knots for a day after that..

So basically the McRib patty is s hotdog? I mean if you eat that garbage everyday I’m sure you’ll have some health issues. Once in a great while isn’t going to hurt you. I love their fries and I’m going to continue to eat them every once in a while.

The egg McMuffins use real eggs. Website says the liquid eggs for scrambled have preservatives and flow ability agents.

When was that? I ask because I worked at Burger King when I was a Kid. Ingredients are WAY different now...

Probably why they only offer it like two months out of the year. If it was out year round people would be dropping like flies!

I remember loving McRibs as a teenager. About 6 years or so ago Deb and I were headed down to LA and we swung in off I5 for a gut bomb.
I said “Oh look, McRibs”, those are great!
Took one bite and almost heaved my guts out. I’ll still grab a McDonald’s burger now and then, but you can keep that hunk of garbage that they call the McRib!

I like the occasional Big Mac or a couple of cheeseburgers (because you can eat them and drive) and fries. But the sausage egg and cheese McGriddle with a hash brown is the morning go-to staple on the way to the river. That and we get a dozen of the oatmeal raisin cookies (those are like crack), to munch on during the day on the water. All the other stuff on their menu is crap, except the pancakes, but you have to use your own syrup because their's is like sugar water.

McRib? McYuck!
