Wow it's been a long time since we got Bailey. She was born so long ago to @angiebaby . Bailey was the runt of her litter. I can't remember how many brothers and sisters she had but she was the last to get a home. She is so old I can't remember if we were already on RDP or still on HotBoat when she was born. I know there were a couple other members who took on Bailey's litter including @UltraLucky .

I thought Bailey would be great sister to our other Chocolate Lab Bre but by the time I got around to making a decision, Bailey was off to a new home. A month or so later, Angie posted that the owners that took her on could not keep her so I was able to surprise my family by bringing Bailey home. She has been a great dog since and now sits the oldest to four other dogs, each one of my kids having their own (German Shepard, Toy Poodle, MaltiPoo, New Foundland Poodle).

A couple years ago she started to deteriorate and it seemed the time was near. We changed up her diet and a new dog came alive from this old girl. Although her body was no longer young, she was a young happy dog. Unfortunately, she started to deteriorate the last month or so and has decided that she just can't do what she loves to do the most anymore which is eat food. She's lost so much weight in the last three days and we're at a loss of what to do. She still wags her tail but her quality of life is just not there. We were hoping she would go peacefully in her sleep but she keeps fighting on, even through shaking and maybe a little pain. Tonight might be the night and it might be tomorrow.

Went through it a year ago with my Golden Retriever. With all the unconditional love he showed me through the years it was my turn to do what he had done for me, but for him.

It was the most awful yet beautiful moment to be there when I put him down. Tears me up just writing about it.

Ultimately they never live long enough but they’re amazing for the short amount of time they are here. They give us all of them.

Sorry to hear about Bailey and the decision you’re faced with. Dogs are fucking rad.

I just love an old pup with a gray face. It looks like she has had a wonderful life in a loving home.

One of the very hardest things we can go through the loss of our pups that are truly family members

Sorry to hear, Bailey's brother Cooper passed September of 2019. He had a rapidly advancing brain tumor and could no longer see. Was a tuff day for sure. Was a smart son a bitch with a ton of energy. We still miss him daily. I would whistle for him and he would always respond d with a bark no matter where he was.

So sorry to hear where you are at. What a great story how you she finally arrived with your family. Looks like she had a great life with your family for many years. We had to put down our family dog a while ago. It is so hard to make the decision for them. Best to you and the family in the direction that you take.

Hey Chump.
Don’t forget this along your journey.

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.
He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?'
'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered.
Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked.
Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up'.
The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveler asked.

'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.'
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.
After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?'
'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in..'
'How about my friend here?' the traveler gestured to the dog.
There should be a bowl by the pump.'
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.
The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.
When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
'What do you call this place?' the traveler asked.
This is Heaven,' he answered.
'Well, that's confusing,' the traveler said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.'
'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.'
'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?'
'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.

So sorry to hear about your pup. Heartbreaking, but it's the price you pay for unconditional love.

I pray you both meet up again in the great fields of heaven someday, You'll know you are there when you hear her greet you! 😇

I feel your pain! We had to make the decision a month ago. My 12yr old boxer, Raisin Cane had a glioma brain tumor. She got to the point of frequent seizures and could no longer get up on her own. Truely the hardest call i've ever made. It's the last true measure of love you can give them. We took hibiscus flowers from our yard and layed them by her head. She smelled them and layed her head down as she went peacefully looking into my eyes.

RIP My Sweet Girl!!!

You know what sucks…as your dogs become seniors they becomes the BEST they have ever been! So you get even more attached. All the bs they put you through is gone. Then poof, they age at a quick pace.
our current pup, is 12. I can see the aging monthly.
thanks for posting, im sure it’s not easy

Just had to put my 10 year old Shepard down last Saturday, it was devastating. He was miserable and the quality of life just wasn’t there. It’s a hard thing to do but he let me know it was time. The memories and photos will live on forever. Best of luck my friend.

Pretty sure it was Her and the shepherd when you were waiting to get the fence around the new yard. Gotta be a tough one for the kiddos.

So sorry. It is so hard.

We had to make that decision 2 weeks ago with our dog Gus. He was 14.5 and like yours about a year and a half ago we switched his food. Made him a new dog. We switched to a dehydrated people grade food.

He started having seizures and by his actions the vet believed he had a brain tumor. My wife and I have had dogs for 25 straight years. Got our first before we were married. No more for us. Just too hard having them go. I hope they are all playing together again. As someone said fucking onions.

Just gone through this ruff process few months ago, I wanted to prolong hanging on the him as long as possible, in my mind i was his voice and he was saying he loved me but was tired and wanted to move on, our favorite thing to do besides the river was sharing a mcmuffin at the beach, was his final meal. Missing him was tough and I said no more dogs, well I got a new puppy and while it hasn't been super easy, I look forward to many years of the love a dog can bring to a person and family. Hang in there, looks like you have plenty of back up with your pack.

Awwww! Thanks for sharing. I remember her ears that stuck out for the first few weeks of her life, and we called her Radar. So many RDP/HB peeps got our pups, it was fun to share them with people I knew. @Sleek-Jet got one, Mel (Shake Yo Azz), and some others that I don't recall off the top of my head, darn it!

Her mama, Dixie, left us a couple of years ago. I regret letting her go too long. I was hoping the vet would advise me that it was time when she had lost most of the strength in her back legs, but, like Bailey, her tail kept wagging, so I hoped she would improve. The vet said she might. The next morning she struggled for a while and then passed. It's hard to know when it's time to ease their pain since they can't tell us :'( but I wish I had done it a bit earlier. She was such a sweet girl. PITA at times, but super sweet. She would follow me from room to room so that she could always see me.

Typical Lab. When she saw water she had to become one with it 😂

She was such a great travel buddy. I took her all over the West. I recall taking her to downtown Whitefish. I could have her sit in front of a store and tell her to stay. Then I'd go inside and look around. When I came out, she would be right where I left her, patiently waiting for me to return. When she got to where it was too difficult for her to travel, we found a great kennel in Reno. They gave her the run of the place and she was the official lobby greeter whenever she stayed there.

😞 Call a service that will come to your house and put her to sleep peacefully and then take her away. The site we used had different vet techs all over who can come 24 hours. I It was the best decision we made for one of our dogs who feared the vet and she just got to sleep in her bed and get the shots. Her name was Bailey also. We completely regret not doing it sooner for another dog who passed at home from a possible slow heart attack, that was not painless.

My Alley was wagging her tail right up to the last. Such great dogs, Angie had nice puppies. :D

Alley got cancer in one of her toes and went down hill pretty fast. It wasn't an easy decision but was the right one. My heart still breaks when I think of her, but is mended when I remember all the adventures we had together.

My new lab is a great dog, but not the tail wagging all the time sweet disposition that I got to experience with Alley.
