By the way, any of you while checking out that map I posted for Indian burial grounds under your birthplace happened to notice the name of the Slough in the Gardenia area ? --- seems it was the best for duck hunting in So Cal at the time.
Later given ethnic consideration, it was renamed Dominguez Slough -- but on that map I posted it went by a far different name, one I find ironic given the current demographics of that area.

If any of you native born Angelinos is interested in a bit of a blog concerning it's history, here's a link.

There's an area in La Paz County that went by the name "N***R Flats". It was listed on the old maps, as an official Postal site, and a reference point for mining claims. It's located in the area off of HWY 60, west of Vicksburg Road and east of the town of Brenda. I was shocked when I was doing my FTO for the SO in 1988 that the residents there still called it that. The name quietly disappeared around 1990, with the area taking the name of either Vicksburg or Brenda. And yes, it was settled by freed slaves who came west for farming and mining in the area.
