Surprised nobody mentioned titos off the 405. Culver area. Walk up windows, always a line

Only place I know that serves the way it does.
Order at a window. Person walks away, 10 feet. Makes your order.
Then comes back to window and hands it to you.

Lots of history and it's great.
Just a meh location with nightmare parking

A Montana Taco story.
Reason 347 not to move to Montana if you are Californian.

Last week we attended a meeting in which a fundraiser dinner was discussed and a taco bar was on the menu.
They spent 10 minutes debating if ground beef or steak should be served. Ground beef won the day. I'm going to suggest taco Bell cater next year because they are paying $26 a person for catering and charging $50 a person. Yes for a ground beef taco, likely served in a crispy preformed shell. There is no good Mexican food in Montana available commercially. Even the Mexicans are smart enough to know not serve the legit stuff, because they won't buy it here. I gotta find a dirty truck peddling the goods.

Add that to your reasons California, right below weather.

An Oregon story: I grew up in Corona, home of Del Taco and Naugles. My cousins would come down from Kent Oregon (population 71) every couple of years. Then it would be a couple more years before they would have "Mexican" food again. Sometime in the early 80's The Dalles in Oregon got a Taco Bell. My 22 yr old cousin Kevin would drive 60 miles, one way, to have Taco Bell. 🤮
This is my mom's side of the family obviously. My mom always made turkey tacos, rarely if ever beef. Seasoning for tacos, and spaghetti, always came out of an envelope. I took a lot of crap about that from girl friends growing up.

@angiebaby if you picked up mail you got it from my aunt who was the Postmaster. If the tavern was open, my uncle likely served you. If you got arrested, my uncle was also the sheriff. If you needed fuel, groceries, a mechanic, or anything else at all . . . you kept driving another 20 miles to Grass Valley.

Recently tried the relatively new taco shop in the Basha’s center. Had read their tacos were a little pricey, but if they were anything like Pinche Guerro Tacos, we‘d be happy. Their menu offered various tacos and burritos. Explained to the manager/owner it was our first visit. Asked him to please make, what he thought was their very best taco and also best burrito. Paid and took them home to eat. Was surprised to see they were both carne asada, and nothing great. I’d give them each a C-, at best. What I thought was an individual taco shop appears to actually be a franchise. La Toxica Tacos. The place was clean. We were the only customers in there. Curious if other inmates have tried this taco shop, on the south side of LHC.

Your uncle was the bartender AND the sheriff?

Truth is the tavern was only open for a couple years. They ran a 2 pump gas station and store for nearly a decade. Not sure how long he was doing the Sheriff thing. There has been no gas or groceries available for the public in Kent since the 1990's I believe.
My uncle Dick died in the same house he was born in. Not many folks can say that. The Wilson farm was 1800 acres and grain farming was always the family's primary occupation.

Your mexican food expert card just got revoked!!

You ever try a ritz cracker, peanut butter, dollop of miracle whip and then a pickle on top? (bread and butter works best, but any pickle works).

odd, but tasty!

Nothing worse than losing a friend as a kid after you go to lunch at his house and his mom throws miracle whip on a Bologna sandwich.

My grandma used to make peanut butter sandwiches with mayo and dill pickles. Actually, not bad.

You know what’s up! Those are literally my two favorite places. Nobody beats taco nazo fish tacos and dos Portillos in Perris has amazing food.
Dos Portrillos in Perris has some pretty awesome tacos and burritos - they also have al pastor on the vertical spit. Before Covid they had queso fundido (melted cheese) with a choice of meat and 6 fresh corn tortillas made by the abuelita behind the counter - it was awesome, too bad they don’t offer that anymore.
For shrimp tacos Taco Nazo is the place to go.

I’ll have to go give it a shot if I ever get to go back home 🤣

It’s pretty good and the vibe is fun. I try to go once or twice a month. It isn’t cheap though.

I have lived vista and san marcos since 1977 and remember when Nachos taco shop opened. I went to school across the street from them. I must be slipping, because they were not that good. I would only go there if my friends were there or someone asked me to go. There were so many other better options. Hell, even Los panchos (the train) caddy corner across the street was better than Nachos. I know the owners of Nachos. They have been customers of ours for years, (very nice people) , but never thought there food was anything special. I will have to give it a try and see if something changed. It has been many years since I have been there, so maybe it's gotten better.
