I want to sincerely thank everyone here for all your prayers and support and well wishes. As prepared as I thought I was, I really was not prepared, and I suppose we never are.
Debs son showed up at 10:30 yesterday and visited for a bit, then the hospice aide showed up and went ahead and gave Deb a good sponge bath. She told me it would be any minute.
So I sat with Deb with her music on and she started breathing very labored and shallow. She was in no apparent pain, and there was no panic or struggling, although I can say that girl fought to the last breath to keep going. I was able to hold her hand, stroke her head, and kiss her forehead as she passed. She just fought to take a couple last breaths and then she stopped. She passed at 12:30
I sat with her a while reassuring her and holding her, and then started making phone calls.
I want to thank Napanut for all his support, and I can’t say enough about the people at Yolo Hospice. Those people are living saints in my book.
They helped me and showed me how to take care of Deb and guided me the whole way and are guiding me still.

RDP is my extended family, and I will never forget the prayers and support from each and every one of you.
Thank you for being here for me.

This is a very sad, yet inspiring story. My deepest sympathy and greatest respect go out to you Sir. I can not imagine walking in your shoes, but if I ever do, I can only hope that I could do it with as much dignity and integrity as you.

There are no words for what you have been through but I hope you find comfort knowing she passed peacefully and on her own terms through the end.

X2 for hospice team being saints.

RIP Deb.

Condolences to you WTG. While it may have been the hardest thing you’ve ever done, you will look back and cherish every second you shared with her, no matter how difficult the emotional journey. Some people run from the face of adversity....and you grabbed it by the horns. You’re an example of how every husband should be all the way to the very end. Good luck to you brother.

In reading all of your posts over the years and especially of late, you are the embodiment of what a spouse should be. Your commitment to your wife, your partner, the love of your life is an example of how we should all strive to be with ours spouses. The absolute class and dedication you showed Deb all these years is inspirational to say the least. The way Deb fought every step of the way is also a testament to your relationship. She could not have asked for a better partner to carry her through the end of her life. She now knows everything you did for her and everything you felt and still feel. You are one of the good ones. May Deb rest in peace and may you find comfort in that you provided her with everything you could have given and everything that she needed.

My thoughts are with you Tommy during this time in your life and the years to come , may the rest of your journey be with your head held high and your loving memories that you and Deb shared ...

WTG my condolences to you and may your wife RIP. You showed that the vows you exchanged with your wife really meant something to you and your wife. It's easy to do in times of health and wealth, good times. But the mettle of a man is shown when things are not so good. You showed us all how to handle this if we ever find ourselves in this situation.

You said that the hospice nurses were saints, I'd have to agree, my mom said that when she hugged them she checked their backs for wings. It will take time but you've shown that you will persevere and one day find your new normal.

WTG, I am sure you are unaware the impact this journey has had on all of us folks in here, even newbies like myself. I want to thank you for posting your wife's final journey with us, because you have taught many how a man is suppose to be as a husband, all the way to the end, and I pray that when this happens to me, I can remember this thread and try to do it exactly how you have done it, the right way. God bless you and your family!

Thank you from my Heart. I loved following the last few years with Deb's adventures.
I've been with 3 of 4 parents on hospice. They passed peaceful with my Honey and I holding their hands. Very comfortable experience.
But..... I have not walked in your shoes.... I dont know, if I could be as STRONG as you were with your HONEY!!!
GODBLESS Deb and you!!

If you need anything please reach out to me...

I'm THERE!!!

You are a good man, Tommy.

My 85 year old mom has volunteered at the local Hospice thrift store for over 25 years, 2 days a week, regularly.
Take care my friend, one day at a time.

There's nothing I can say that all these guys (RDP brothers) haven't already said. It's very comforting to see everyone bond together in times like these. I can only hope Tommy that you can find some comfort in seeing how much you and Deb have touched the lives of so many that have and have not met you guys. Hang in there buddy. Rest in piece Deb.
