Went to Temple Bar to check launch ramp and lake level today . The guys at the marina were getting ready to move into deeper water . Nobody knew anything about dredging the ramp . Notice the pipe mat , shouldn’t it be oriented 90* from what it is right now ? Water at ramp looked deep enough to launch maybe up to 24ft boat , but there was a high spot right behind . It’s getting scary guys .

The mats at Hemenway are the same. They pushed them in and created a huge berm at the bottom. Don't think I will even chance trying to launch our 30.

Seems the natural process that occurs at launch ramps, especially those with less incline ---- At the end of the ramp, huge hole, perfect size for your trailer tires to drop into. Then a few feet behind the hole, a large mound of rocks and dirt. This is the eventual result of powering our boats up on the trailer, where the prop or jet wash, digs the hole, then deposits it a few feet behind.
Of course the more shallow the ramp angle, the more throttle gets used to shove the boat up on the partially submerged trailer.

True. No holes. Just the berm from forcing the mats in. Is what it looks like.

It drains this way.....

I did consider that, but I can't speak from experience when it comes to PSP Aircraft mats use on launch ramps. We purchased a bunch and used them for creating temp roads across sugar sand to get concrete trucks well back off any roads while encasing our conduits and lighting standards at a large Navy Ammo storage facility. Soaking the sand with water and using the mats, the concrete mixer trucks had no problems, so long as they were the large singles, not duelies.
So I don't know which direction works best on a launch ramp. I'd think those smooth steel raised & wet ridges with your tires on top would make for shitty purchase versus sideways, but I can't say for certain.
One thing for sure, they way they couple together, if you're going to push them in as Run2rch stated, then having them sideways won't allow for that, they'd just buckle.
