I only heard of that place because I used to watch Don Imus all the time and he mentioned it a few times. He had a gorgeous ranch and giant house in Brenham. Looked really nice in tours he used to post. His son was into roping and he built a professional looking roping arena. Hired Joe Beaver to train his son. From what he said it’s like hiring Michael Jordan to teach basketball.

Grew up going to Willis right outside of Conroe every summer to my grandparents. Caught my first water moccasin when I was 8 while we were crappie fishing at lake Conroe. This was in the 80's. It's become a busy place with a lot of golf courses and homes. My grand dad had the county tractor and took care of the roads in Willis. Lots of memories. I hate water moccasins!

Water moccasins are snakes. Snakes suck! How bad are water moccasins at Conroe lake?

Moccasins are just about everywhere in southeast Texas where there is water. Rivers, lakes, ponds or swimming pools. Never had a problem with them.

Conroe is a small lake by Havasu standards. Best during the week as there aren't many Houstonites up there fucking the water up. Below the 1097 bridge it is about 99% bulkheaded. Rough as hell on weekends and holidays. My one and only time there on a holiday weekend, cost me a new mid cabin door and a lot of time to open the bulkhead and replace it. Rough water broke it in half. The only issue during the weekdays are the local fishing tournaments on Tuesday afternoons and sometimes on Thursdays. Nice in the mornings for beaching at the damn or the island.

I've seen these snakes outside of Dallas on a lake. There's no way around it.
Lake Lanier, still on top of my list

When I was water skiing with friends in Lake Houston during the 80s, my ex-wife became the second individual in history to walk on water. This occurred after she jumped in ready to ski, and I casually pointed out the medium sized snake swimming toward her head.

Hallelujah!

😁

Property taxes were high for the house we looked at . 2.5% . We could afford the house but it would be hard on retirement. Beautiful area though .
