My wife and I decided to spend the weekend in Joshua Tree. Took a seven mile hike today and went down to see these magnificent palms. We love plam trees and one of the reasons we moved back to southern Nevada. However these are on another level! If you have the chance to do this hike to see these in this amazing canyon please do. We felt like we were in an Indiana Jones Movie.

Victory Palms/California Fan Palms.75 feet and taller!

If you look closely you can see me standing at the bottom. In slightly over 6feet.

Walking down the very steep canyon to get a closer look. This is about 3.5 miles in.

The cholla garden was a sight to see too!

In that third pic, the palms in the hillside, is there a water source? It looks like a spring could be up there. Looks like the weather's giving you some sun, but maybe a little cool.

It was sort of ambiguous what we read as to what feeds them. Sounds like there used to be a source but no longer.

They got snow last night. I hiked in a Tshirt today. It was cooler and windy until about 1pm

It was quite amazing. We love that kind of stuff. We try and hit a National park every quarter; four a year minimum.

That grove on the mountainside is beautiful.

This is an example why wind and solar farms piss me off so much. Their proponents say "No one will see them in the desert, it's just unused barren land."

Those pics of the Palm groves are awesome. We are headed to Palm Desert this week. Going to do the Art Smith trail off the 74 and go to the Palm groves on that trail. A great hike but not quite 7 miles to get there! Well done and thank you for the pictures.

That Cholla garden looks like my mother-in-laws back yard. Those fuckers are everywhere here! Hate those bastards!

Did you know their needles will go right through riding boots, shin guards, and heavy socks when hitting them at about 20 mph? My brother does....
