haha. i found a cheapo bayliner 2050 br with a 4.3 v6 and an alpha gen 2 drive. open bow and the back to back seats. its obviously a turd of a boat overall but thats kinda what i want it for. i want to be able to toss a bunch of people in it, go putting around the harbor and not give 2 shits about it getting messed up. sure im the type of person that will keep it clean and running. but ive just gotten tired of putting my boat into the salt water and cleaning it for like 6 hours afterwards. i figure $1000 for a boat that runs with just a couple cracks in the seat isnt too bad. plus its a little v6 with thru prop exhaust so it'll be a little more kiddo friendly than my v8 with open exhaust above the waterline.

didnt snag any pix but its like this one:

gonna go check it out tomorrow and make sure its not too rotten and the motor runs.

Good for you. The big issue with salt is not really the boat but the trailer. Then again I am sure you already know this.

That V6/Alpha is bulletproof.

I say go for it! The piece of mind you will get from not putting your main boat in the salt is well worth the price of the Bayliner

I think that if you found a Bayliner that was also a Jet Bote........then you'd really be hitting the Daily Double :D

Honestly how can you go wrong for $1000 if the hull/motor/trailer are all sound???......sounds like a winner

Bayliner builds a good boat. It gets a bad rap cause the bay liner owners are a different breed of boater. For a grand to float in the Harbour and not give a shit if it sinks I'd be all over it. I'd even run that focker to Catalina.

We had a friend down on the Parker strip with on just like yours and he drove it for 12 years with zero maintenance. This guy beat the shit out of the boat and it kept running. I think he may have changed it the oil once or twice.

If you decide no to buy it, please pm me the sellers contact. A buddy's boat took a crap and he would like to get something so his kids have a summer.

I'd do it. I've been contemplating buying a cheap outboard powered center console boat to do the same thing.

Good move. For your mission it should be a solid choice. Sometimes the upscale boats come with too many hassles. A boat you can use and enjoy without stress is a great boat.

Not a horrible idea.

One piece of advice, rip out the carpet and do a DIY bedliner/non skid dea in the cockpitl.

This way the boat won't develop that funky smell between uses from damp carpet.

Kid in my neighborhood had a 16 Bayliner Capri, he was two years older then me, but I still hung out with him most of the summer. He was 16 and drove it like he stole it. Boat held up well to his abuse. Forgot to run the blower after filling up and boat was destroyed by the fire. That was the only thing that killed it. Tough little boat and cheap. Think his parents paid $79 a month for it. It was the early 80's.

As a teen ager I took several virginity on my bay liner... just saying.

so you're saying i should stop at the car wash and power wash the dead baby batter off the seats before i bring it home?

Other than having to find another website for your boating content, it sounds like a great boat. :D

Their rep on website forums directed at custom boats is laughable but overall they still are boats and I'm sure even the ballers would agree that Bayliner has some big beautiful ocean cruisers..

Just be prepared to be treated differently at the dock/ lake. I bought a 'liner wacker pretty cheap as a dock banger a couple of years ago to get me on the water since my Raysoncraft project seems to be goin backwards. Got a smoking deal on a bass/sport boat garage kept, '88 w less than 200 hrs. I've owned Sangers, Raysons. Tahiti. Southwind, Crusader, others, started in kneeler hydros as a kid. But own a Bayliner, your demoted. You don't know squat, which is OK I guess. Lets see what your perspective is after you use it. Not sayin I give a crap or that you should either, It'd just be interesting to hear your thoughts.

You know that feeling you get when one of those pull up to the dockbar and start to squeeze in between your boat and a 32 Dcb??

haha i cant wait to zig zag down the launch ramp with it and then start it up with the drive in the trailer position like a hot shot. just do everything over the top. yell at the wife on the launch ramp, etc. one day ill go to site 6 and see how many people i can get a laugh from. drop the anchor right at the launch ramp like 10' deep and wait for the wife to get the truck. hah.

Well, I see you are from HB. So, I assume you're going to use the boat in Huntington and/or Newport Harbors. Best harbor cruise/booze cruise boat around is a Duffy. Newer ones are really pricey. But, you can find some cherry older ones for 1-2K. Get a Duffy for harbor cruising and you've got something. Not junk, but maybe a classic. But, if you are more in the Bayliner frame of mind . . . . go for it. Don't take it offshore.

i do cruise the harbor, but ive been venturing out thru the breakwalls and going over to queen mary/rainbow harbor and back within the long beach breakwater. id be dead in a duffy. haha. my 21 daycruiser handles it okay as long as the wind stays down. im just getting tired of cleaning it, repolishing everything, scrubbing everything with soap, wiping down all the running gear, motor, etc.

I'd get some DCB stickers made for it and strip all the Bayliner stuff off. Great conversation starter

I've been thinking about getting me one of these to go play around the sound. I've owned one before and they get the job done.

I will say my 19 foot Jet is a lot more fun to drive but I will not let it touch salt water!

My Bayliner dock banger. 88, garage kept, 200hrs. Fish finder. depth finder, trolling motor, stainless prop. Came with eveyrthing except gas. And I paid about what a long trip to the river costs. Keeps me on the water while I (slowly) do my Raysoncraft. Kids can run it and I don't worry about it.
