Looking at used XP4’s. There are quite a few with a variety of mods. Aftermarket cages look great, headlocks and larger tires seem like a must have at some point. Loud stereo is always nice. Seats, Belts and GPS also seem to be must. It will be used mostly at the River and local riding.
What would your top priorities be? Anything to avoid?

Cage, doors, seats & belts. A nice set of tires and beadlock wheels is money well spent, maybe a spare (once you carry one, you won't need it, kinda like a spare prop or sunglasses).

Nice to have later, car to car radio, intercom with headsets, a lil bump and thump is nice too and add some lights

Great idea for a thread!

What about heated seats, windshield, winch, shocks tuned, spare tire mount, dual LeD whips..... what about an aftermarket clutch...

Ok seriously
If you have a V bar connected to the dash bar can you add a windshield?
Is a full windshield better than say a hafie....

Cage and doors, then it's endless from there. Headsets are really nice, car to car is nice if riding with friends, a good set of wheels and tires. It really depends on what you intend to do with the car. If you are going to use it in the desert then safety would a good place to start, if cruising around Havasu then shinny stuff and LED whips, rock lights mounted in your wheel wells are cool for cruising the mall or the grocery store. :D If you do aftermarket stuff be sure to get a good insurance policy that covers all of the add on's.

A quality cage and 5 point belts saved my Life. SDR cage will hold up tested one myself, seen a str8up cage fail in numerous spots when friend had a mild rollover. Doors mine popped open on 3rd impact-roll. The rest is only money. Spare belt and tire, friends will need to borrow more than you will need once you buy them.

Yep, good advice Nick. No doors for me, my car is for the desert, you won’t see me driving mine to dinner or pick up bananas at the grocery store.

My car was just run for the time after the cage and such was done. Will still wrap it and powder coat, it's apart now for some powder coat and wiring. Windshield is really nice, in the cold or dust.
I have to give credit to Eric Baker for doing the fab work, he knows how to build a legit set up.

Buy the car new and customize it yourself. I looked for a long time for used and couldn’t pass up on the price of new unmolested with a warranty

Insane build. Gonna be awesome to see it finished.

The used market is all over the place. Interesting to see where people put their money first. Cage and safety makes sense. Being new, I’d assume that stock would fine.
Appreciate the advice.

If you plan on just cruising around, I'd say seat belts and a spare.. If you are a lead foot type, then a Cage (a decent cage) is a must + Seat Belts.. After that a spare and a method of changing it (tools). After that all the crazy electronics you want to put in it! LOL

And, as Andy found out the hard way, a spare and a jack...

I do not have a car yet. But when I do one of the first things will be car to car radio. Go with the Bluetooth and you can play music when driving.

Since you only asked about “Must Have’s” i will state this even tho it’s been said but with added features.
A fully welded properly built cage (preferably with a quad catcher and roof triangulation)
Full doors or at least the stock doors with the bolt on leg protectors
But first and foremost a set of 4-5 (5 preferably and properly mounted) seat belt harnesses

No, no, I found out to go with people that have more experience and that can save my ass :) j/k YES, a spare tire and jack are a must. You can do the trunk like I have and the spare tire goes right on top of it out of the way.

Here is my list:

#1 Cage/Seats/Belts/Doors or inserts.
#2 Beadlock wheels and a GOOD tire (Tensor has been great for me).
#3 WINDSHIELD. By far my favorite upgrade. Keeps you warm and eliminates having your face caked in dust, rain, mud, etc.
#4 Intercom + Car-to-car radio. Makes riding much quiter and you can listen to music through the headsets.
#5 Baja Designs or Rigid Light Bars. I've been through 5 Ebay/Chinese light bars and finally got 2 Baja Designs for the front and 1 for the rear and the quality/light output is unmatched.

I also like having a roof rack so I can mount the spare up top and see out the rear view mirror.

Rugged Radio's 20% off sale ended last night with me buying the "Parker Pumper" for my kids/helmets. They of course have helmets now, but no fresh air. So I did the pumper and will pick up new helmets for them and my wife.

I took the time to really think mine out so I could avoid the car being broken down and needing to redo anything. if you decide to get an aftermarket cage, I strongly recommend going with one that has the experience and understands your safety expectations. Think ahead for your future plans for tabs (again to avoid having to tear down and redo). Be sure to have tabs and bungs added for roof, lights, mirrors, windshield, sun visors, radio antenna, whip lights/flags and maybe even a GoPro mount or two. I ended up having to do a few bolt on pieces for my sun visors, radio antenna and gopro's and it always drives me crazy to not have tabbed for them.

here is a link of another thread I started a couple years back when mine was built. the market has lots more to offer today than it did when the xp4 first became available, there might be a few things I would change or do different today.

I'm surprised that more folks aren't mentioning suspension.
That's where I dumped money in my off-road toys.

I haven't driven in any of these new SxS's, are the stock suspensions really that good?

I agree with doing the suspension (I am just starting to make some changes), however one of the selling points at the time of my purchase was the suspension didn't need much help. today, lots of things have changed and tons of options are available and can be very pricey, upwards to an additional $10k without a blink of an eye. I just don't think too many go this far into it. it was money I didn't want to spend after all the other dollars spent.

Just missing the heated seats.. If you don’t mind, please leave the keys in it Easter Weekend. I’ll fire it up to make sure everything is working.
PS. Please leave the map from your place to Pirates just in case.

Hell of a package. They make it so easy to just “add to my cart”.
Totally! They e mailed me over a proposal with a parts list, then a credit card form lol. I think it is just a bit out of my reach, close but not close enough.

Just installed the shock therapy springs on my four seater what a huge difference. The rears are fairly easy to put on but be prepared for the Front they are A pain in the ASS. I would suggest having the fronts done by somebody with a hydraulic Spring press.

Used Rzr shopping..... Good luck!
I looked at a handful of used XP4 1000s and Turbos over an entire year, and ultimately decided to go new. So many people were upside down on their loans and upgrades thus making the asking price astronomical for a beat up toy.

Harnesses, Cage then Doors in that order.
The dragonfire inserts make the harnesses useful, and makes the seats usable. I also did the Shock Therapy Stage 3, and am extremely happy.

I’m not too excited about bouncing around looking but figured I’d give it a shot. The posts have helped a lot to decide what mods i should look for. Just need to find something in good shape that fits

I really enjoy this thread btw and I am sorry for throwing this thread for a loop but I am thinking of purchasing in near future and don't have unlimited funds.

I have always wondered and worried about buying used. I treat my stuff really well and am honest when I sell my stuff as to its reliability, maintenance etc.

The prices for used are all over the place however most are within my reach. I have a few questions as a newbie to Side by Sides. I know these things get ridden in harsh environments and am concerned I may be buying someone else's problem.

What are some things to look for when looking at used side by sides?

I just saw that ride now in phoenix area has a new 2018 non turbo xp4 1000 for $20k & change before TTL and Dealer fees.

I am wondering what is the normal OTD price for a new non turbo xp4 1000? Also what is the normal OTD price for a new Can AM X3 4 seat?

What things from the dealer should I avoid?

Extended warranty, dealer prep, shipping and assembly bs?

Is there wiggle room on what they are asking like a car dealership; will they negotiate price?

Would you buy used or new?

Any input would be appreciated.

Over thanksgiving we looked at new ones at ax west. $26K OTD for a turbo car, it was around $1,200 less for a non turbo. At that price get the turbo. I too have looked at used and can find them (in Vegas) for $20K. This is a 16 or 16 turbo car stock or with little extras. Most used with cage, tires, radios or much more then that.

You can find a non turbo car for 20k out the door, or could a month ago I know. I write a lot of these and that seemed to be the average out the door price I would see. Extended warranty can be bought with in the first 6 months of buying the car. Find a source or dealer that will give you a killer deal on one and buy it there. If you want a out the door price in AZ call Jack at AZ West and tell him Andy Holthe sent you and you want the straight up otd deal.
