Hey, whats up w/James Stewart.. I don't follow the sport that close, but when he was 19/20yo, he was super fast being RC before he retired.. Now when I watch him he's hurt, he crashes, or he just gets beat, seems like he's lost his speed...

I'd like to hear what your opinion is on this guy.. Seemed like 5yrs ago he would drive through RC and McGrath's records... What do u think? Have Villapoto and Dungy just passed him up?..:thumbsup

He certainly had the potential to break everyone's records, but somewhere his focus has been lost. It shows at times and he's still an awesome rider, just can't put it all together all the time.

That said, I hope he wins tonight, although he's been sick for a couple days.

He's been the fastest guy on two wheels for as long as I can remember. His problem seems to be staying on said two wheels. ;)

Heat 1 Reed crashed battling Stewart for lead. Stewart 7th lap one, leading lap 5. Stewart wins heat 1.
Note Chad rode through half the field with James before the fall.

Oh well, the crash get's him again. Villapoto is dialed to come from last to third. Unfortunate crash for him, but he's solid. It's frustrating to watch Steward being so inconsistent. I can't imagine how he feels. He's still the fastest guy out there, but that doesn't neccesarily win championships, as he's proved.

Did his tires make him crash again?

I've never seen anything like it. An industry insider friend of mine that knows him said "he's just dumb, that's it, that's why he can't keep it together for any period of time, just a lack of smarts". I guess it may be true and this guy has been around the pros for years(decades) doing business and riding with em, he's credible.

Yea hard to say what his problem is, maybe only being a part time racer has caught up with him...One thing for sure the fastest man on the planet has company.

McGrath was part time too most of the time, can't use that excuse, maybe it is the tires!:thumbsup

Awesome night for the KTM's. Musquin has some serious talent, had some great lines that nobody else was doing. Dungey got KTM their first ever podium last week & made it to the top this week. Cool to see another mfgr break the Japanese stranglehold.

Me too.. Unreal, I can't believe he messed up again... over and over, each race, and each year it's the same story... Damn, this kid is throwing away all that talent... It's hard to watch, the fastest guy ever on the circut, yet can only keep it together for 5 or so laps... It's almost like the other guys just try to stay with him at the start, knowing that there's a very good chance he'll make that mistake within 10laps...

It's too bad, bcuz I really thought he had the ability to win every race he entered...:grumble:

Congrats to Dungey and KTM. That changes the game a little;) I'm not a Stewart hater but I'm just done with him. Even McGrath said it, Supercross only contracts are a thing of the past. With the sport becoming so competitive you can't not race the outdoors, you fall too far behind. I still think he can win but I think he is prob his own worst enemy. Glad to see Canard back even though he had to ride very conservative. We were really pulling for KW to podium but even he admitted it was his fault he got passed, unlike some of the other riders who always blaim it on something.:D

I think you guys are right, Stewie has lost focus with Bubba's world etc. However if you know anything about MX you can see what a POS his Yamaha is....at least for his riding style. His bike is fighting him the whole way, Brooks even commented on it last year. I was hoping JGR would figure it out for him but that has not happened yet. Put JS back on a Green bike and he will be right back in it. Great night for KTM! I was pulling for KW too....so close!

When Stewart passed Reed and went into the whoops sideways, it was amazing that he was able to straighten it out and make the pass stick. Serious skill there. I thought he was gonna be pitched for sure.

Man what a night. It was awesome. My wife and I like both of the Ryans, but we also like Canard. I was glad to see James dump it again. I am not a hater but the fact that he said his goal is to beat McGraths record shows that he doesn't do this because he loves it. He does it for the fame and money. The other racers may think that as well, but if they do they must hide it better. Guys like the Ryans and Trey seem to have a real love for the sport and are grateful that they get paid to do what they love. I have talked to a couple of insiders and they love dealing with Dungee and Canard. They said that they are two of the most humble guys ever.
James like to ride the edge, but he just can't figure out what that edge is and often goes over. RV is able to do the same, but he knows that edge and can just ride right along that edge. Dungee might need to be a bit more aggressive this year as he lost quite a few points last year by allowing some guys to make passes. The nice thing about Dungee is if he does ride more aggresive I believe he will do it cleanly.

I think Bubba started believing what everyone said about him. Fastest man on two wheels, greatest ever etc. Got complacent. Drag racing Legend Don Prudhomme once called it "drinking your own bath water". I think he might have even been a little bit bored because there was no challenge any more in beating everyone to a pulp.

You can clearly see that Stewart has to ride over his head now to keep up with the others. While he is faster at times, he cannot sustain the pace. So you get crashes and "Huck-a-Bucks" all over the place.

He also seems to lack passion.

As far as the bikes, you could see from the overhead shots how much better the Kawi handled than the others. I am not sure if the KTM will ever get there with a steel frame because of COG issues.

I loved seeing KTM take the entire main like that. They deserve it and it shows they are serious now in Supercross and they aren't just an outdoor company. I do not like Bubba at all really. I dont like whiners and arrogant riders. Although the arrogance has been dialed back a little bit in resent years, its still there. If you've ever watched Bubba's world you can tell he is WAY too distracted by everything else and having his family manage everything for him is definitely not helping since they really aren't taking that load off his shoulders. Its causing him to loose focus and not recognize when its time to dial it back and when its time to let it loose. Riders like that need really strong leadership to ride fast and constantly. Hopefully Coach Gibbs steps in and maybe does a little mentoring for him. I think that's the kind of person he needs to have guiding him. Gibbs or DeCoster.

I liked seeing KTM on the top of the box especially since it was Ryan that did it. But as far as that bike goes I am still not convinced it is right. In watching both of the Ryans, RV was able to flick his bike like it weighed 10 pounds and the way it would just squirt off of jumps, very impressive.
RD's bike just looked sluggish and even lacking power in some parts. Now that could have been the way Ryan was riding it since his style is very different than RV's. RV is like a run and gun, hanging off the side and really laying the bike down and swapping lines very quickly if need be. RD is way more smooth and methodical, picking his lines carefully. In the end their best times were only .2 seconds apart which surprised me. If RD wants to win the championship this year he is going to have to challenge back and closing the doors a little harder than he did last year.
And let us not forget Trey. I think conditioning got him this weekend. Give him a couple of more races to get his groove back.
Regardless its going to be a great year..woohoo

Carmichael was talking about the steel frame and how it actually has more flex than the aluminum frames. So that might have helped him on some of the looser sections, but you're right. RV's bike was a ROCKET off the corner. He went by all of the top guys like shit through a Goose. If it was a 30 lapper he would have won.

I think DeCoster is using this season to max out the current bike, probably get 2nd to RV and make a case to KTM to come out with a new design. Then it will be ON.

Sounds like the KTM Chromo frames are actuallly lighter than aluminum frames and with the lack of rigidity with the steel Im thinking that as soon as KTM truely dials in their new linkage suspension the frame issue could get squashed.

Remember, the older link-less suspension had the shock mounted slightly off-center on the swing arm which did NOT help the bike track straight in whoops and all.

The KTM is all new design, made just for Dungey. KTM is working at getting enough units up for sale now, so it's legal for him to race. It was just released a few weeks ago as a "Factory Edition".

The old PDS had no impact with regard to flex & was as good as linkage systems - but was a bit more fickle on set-up. I hope KTM never goes Aluminum, they're a bitch to work on in comparison to Chromoly.

Yes, the linkless set up is a biotch to set up. I bought a 525 dualsport set up and have spent more time tuning that thing then all of my other bikes combined. I had to resort to having a friend ride it and watching it work. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to set up at the level these guys are riding. KTM has come a loooong way, they are great bikes.

I don't think that pic was taken this morning as it's still raining at my house:D Yes, a mud track and KW pulling it off would be cool but I think the rain tapers off today and with the track being covered it could be dry. Guess it all depends when they pull the tarps and when the rain tapers off. Will be interesting to see Canard tonight. He is def a front runner, pulled a seventh in Pheonix and has had one more week to come up to speed. Gotta wait till Sunday to see the race though because of the shitty CBS coverage. That means 10 minutes of racing with 50 minutes of bullshit. Well, at least they have it on TV.:thumbsup

Oh geeze, this one's on CBS? That sucks! I think it will take a while for Canard to come up to speed. I think he's one of the only ones who is top 3 consistently (I think this will keep dungey off the podium for the most part). Canard must be under strict orders to not push it though. He get's hurt more than anyone. Think about all the crashes bubba has and he never get's hurt, seems Canard get's hurt every crash.

I agree with the Canard theory. He does seem to break easy:rolleyes: He is one of my riders I watch though.:thumbsup
