Excellent main bar to sit at on a hot day. We'll never see anything like that again.
We went back when it first re opened and the guy running the kitchen (at that time) creeped out the girls so we never went back.

Exactly, if it was priced to revenue it would be closer to $800k. But you can’t blame the owner for trying to pick up a buyer in these panic buying times.

It once was and will probably never be again. Glad I was there to be part of it in the 80’s-90’s.

Makes me appreciate that Fox's has been getting comprehensive restorations with the new operator. Full blown refurbishment and replacement to as good as it gets without losing it's character.

To the north there was also Hussongs in Havasu, that was all the same shit going on minus being on the water. Two stories, everybody sharing DNA out of those buckets with long straws. I can remember, barely, trying to walk back to our campground on the island, jumped off the bridge once cause I was hot. I couldnt find any history or photos of it on line, it burned down correct? Spot was where the Hometown Buffet is now I think.

Reckless savage..

Back in those days, if you were on the water, you had an F350 dualie and a 18ft flat. My dad would tow his 14ft Crestliner with his landyacht Olds.

All the kids on the shore in their dome tents were there for only one reason, and it has nothing to do with boating! 🍻 The legal drinking age was 21 in CA and 19 in AZ. When Regan changed the legal drinking age to 21 nationwide, there was no real reason for the kids from CA to go to AZ anymore. This is why Sundance will never be what it was back before 1984.

As RD said, if someone had a shit ton of money, and converted it to something like Havasu Springs, a nice high end Restaurant that would be worth driving to, it would probably survive quite nicely. Everything in Parker is hit and miss when it comes to food. A quality fine dining place with a view would be awesome.

Little quiz,

#1 What was the name of the floating bar that use to be up river by Polynesian Village, Moonridge and the other places by the dam? AZ side.

#2 Back in the day you couldn't buy alcohol on Sunday before 12 noon in AZ. Why?

#3 Name the riverfront bar on the AZ side that was about 1 mile up river from Badenochs, and just below Marina View? Coolest bar EVER on the strip.
Clues, the bartender had a pet monkey that roamed the bar eating peanuts. There were bamboo cages that go-go dancers would dance in.

#4 The bar on the AZ side, not waterfront, up by the dam that served a drink called "the blue goo".

cue the Jeopardy thinking tune.......

Pic #2 is on the Sacramento River. Pic #3 looks like Orwood on the Delta (could be wrong, but Orwood looks just like that).

I was too young to remember the bars that Old Rigger is talking about.. but I do remember somethings..

Like "Whimpy's" which was a burger joint.. I'd give anything for one of their shirts nowadays.. Had some guy chasing whimsy for money, and in the background Popeye was banging Olive Oil on the deck of a flat bottom. :D.

I remember when 49'er Pizza was a sawdust on the floor place just south of the keys, and they had remarkable pizza... the Bathroom doors with the cowboy and the whore were priceless. Just below that where Manor Mobile was there was a restaurant called "The Chicken Roost" that was also great food.. We'd stop there for dinner on the way into town quite a bit. Old stores like "River Rags" and the "Desert Rose" going there with my mom.. All sorts of weird things I remember from when I was a kid..

But Sports Valley was my favorite.

Whimpys was just around the corner from our old place. I've posted this before but we brought a big order back for dinner and my buddy luckily opened his burger up to make sure it was his I guess, anyway there was a moth with a 3 inch wing span stuck in the cheese. lol he still ate the burger after getting rid of the guest.

I haven't thought of the The Chicken Roost in a long time, I don't know if I remember the 49'er or not?

Lets not forget 'The Bean Pot'. First time i ever even heard of mexican pizza was from there. I was talking to someone last summer that has a place up on Bean Pot hill and he was surprised that's where the name actually came from.

Sports Valley was pretty cool. Remember the cabanas on the beach out front? they had a wavy roof to them.

The old gas station. I can't remember if it was a Mobil back in the day, I guess it was?, but the owners son who still lives in Parker was the guy that hooked us up flagging for the crop dusters down in near Poston. We weren't even old enough to drive yet but would take our friends baja bug down there long before sun up and work until it got hot, flagging one row at a time. I think we were getting sprayed with malathion and we smell like that shit for days.

Was it Harry's where a few guys simply passed out and fell over backwards in the water and eventually showed up as floaters down by the damn?

Also, anyone have or can find pics of the old Hussongs, would love to see that again. I cant find anything on the web.

Was anybody going to name #3 Hulls Hut or Hula Hut. My river neighbor had the sign for many years.

We are going way Back, but wasn’t Hula Hut the original liquor license that was used to open The Desert Bar? When Ken first opened the Desert Bar, it was a single wide mobile home, in the middle of the desert. Boy, look how far that has come!

Don’t know about the liquor license thing but yes numbers 3 is Hulls Hut, or Island a go-go.

And to be honest I never knew it was called Island A Go-Go until someone posted a thread on one of the sites looking for pictures of the place. I only knew it as Hulls Hut.

Here is what was great about Houseboat Terry. On Tuesdays or Wednesday’s at the river, during the Summer months, Houseboat Terry would have day parties for the service workers on the river. You would go to the party in the reeds, where his 2 story Houseboat was, and there would be every bartender, bouncer, cook, waitress, from every watering hole up and down the river. There was an in water, volleyball court, loud music, and what amounted to a day party for locals. The relationships I made at those parties caused me to never ever have wait for a drink at any bar on the river. Those were some fun times. I went to too many parties there, to count.

He was run over by a boat at night in approx 1999. What a loss! For those that remember, the boat parade that followed his death was epic. A real tribute! The only time I have ever seen that on the river.

The one on the corner of 95& old 95 was called Mobil Manor.. they had a bitchen old glass sign on the side of the building. I asked the guy before they were closing down if I could buy it and he said yes. I went back and he said “it broke” when they were taking it down..

years later I was in someone’s garage and they told me they bought it.. I was 🤨

somewhere I have some pics of us at that Mobil, of all places to have pictures from. I guess never paid attention to what brand of station it was or I simply just forgot. It was just across the ditch from our old place.

Too bad about that sign.

You know what would be really cool, if they fired back up the old drive in theater. Probably wouldn’t be as much fun as I remember it being when I was a lot younger but I’d still go. Can’t count the times we went but I have no memory of what movies we saw. Set up chairs next to the truck, break out the ice chest and turn up the little window speakers full tilt.
Hotter than hell, no breeze, no water, drunker than skunks.

I don’t even remember the PDQ, where was it?
only market we mostly used was manor market. That and later in the 80’s Circle K because they always stocked a good supply of frozen strawberries. Some girls liked strawberry daiquiri’s.

It’s was where the Am/Pm now sits in downtown Parker. It had an extensive collection of boat racing pictures at bluewater. It also had sequence pics of crashes. As a kid, I found it fascinating. I think now that I jogged your memory, that you instantly recall the place I am describing. Back then it was the only store..... so you had to go in it!

Boat race theme. All of those pictures belong to the Gory's , and I believe they still have them in storage. Would be fun to go through them.

Did you have a trailer at ECHO in late 80s and 90s ? I used to camp there around 84 then bought E5 back by dry storage, $3500 with easy go golf cart from a guy(mick)owned a waterbed store on beach blvd.LOL. We used to go to Sundance all the time, what great memories.had that place up tell 98 or so. You could sit in golf cart by the big rock face (by entrance to ECHO)and hear great acoustics from bands playing in the bar.Sad and Erie all the tales that place offers.!!

No, at a buddies family, the Sheridan's and another family from Orange county - forget their names..

Echo in the 80s? From my dad's photo album.

I don't know if I'm remembering the same place, did it have real high windows by the front door? Like high enough where you couldn't see inside. Brick on the face of the wall about waist high then the windows were much higher that where a normal window would be. Really good shakes? Kinda rings a bell but I dunno, long time ago.

Was am/pm where Terrible's is now? Fuck, can't remember shit.

To be honest the place I remember most in town was Coffee Erns. We ride our dirt bikes out to P mountain and then cut across for breakfast at Erns.

Mid 70's Sundance, camping at La Paz and pulling up late afternoon in the Hondo flatty. 👍
Returning by road later to drink the night away. Enjoying all the memories this thread reminds me of ---- except one, that's either not been mentioned or I overlooked.

That Fucking Monkey 🤬🤬🤬

Coming in for breakfast, hungover and feeling like shit, just trying to keep my head from exploding and now having to fight off that damned Simian piece of shit trying to steal my bacon and keep him at bay so he wouldn't piss on me. I hate those dirty vile creatures, unless they're locked in a cage. And here I was hung over, trying to spar against one with my breakfast and sanity at stake and that prick is bouncing off the walls and swinging over my head.

I had day dreams of coming back armed and blowing his ass away.
Following year returned and thank GOD he was missing, rumor was somebody did in fact blow his hairy ass away ???
Then I sold the Hondo flat, bought a 20' I/O with a small cuddy and started beach camping at Havasu, haven't been on the strip since 76'.

hahaha...I've heard stories of Jim's monkey. My good friend was a friend of Jim Shubin, he was a bouncer at the Sundance in the 70's. He met Jim when Jim owned a bar in I believe Whitter , called Gigi's...or something to that nature...Anyway I guess Jim owned a Pantera, and him and my friend were either at Riverside Speedway or Elsinore, with the Pantera and the monkey, and the monkey got loose and they couldn't find it. They go to leave and they feel this bump, like they ran something over. Turns out it was the monkey, that was hiding in the wheel well of the Pantera the whole time...

From the late 90's until the mid 2000's after the twins took it over is when I spent most of my time there.. The original glory days of the 80's and into the 90's I was too young for it. :(

RD
You must be about the same age as me. Late 90’s is when I could get in legally. During the 80’s the parents would always be idling back to the house wasted. That place definitely rocked back in the day.

Not the greatest photo, but a cool image from back in the day.
I’m guessing post 1968 because Buckskin was listed.
Had a trailer at Big Bend
We daycamped there that year and I think they had just built the museum at the downriver end.
No cabanas or camping then.
Could be wrong, I was only 8!
