why don't you think they care about the old famous "SINdance" ??? is it because the "courtesy/recruiting" pontoon boat has been tied up, just floating "HALF-WAY" in the-water for about 17 years now ??? :bash:  ?????

Hasn't been that long. He was being a smart ass. LOL. I am surprised that nobody sea to care about any of that shit though. I'd think at least someone would want to make sure the old fuel doesn't end up in the water?

i never made it to sundance but have heard some great stories from my boss and one of the old partners in the bar. i have let them know they need to reopen it for some fun and so i can get some stories of my own but don't think it will happen. i think its just to rundown now and it didn't make enough money during the summer to survive the winter and for some reason nobody has done anything to it to make it stay open during the winter like a good restaurant and bar.

Im thinkin if someone re-opens it, they should make the top level an actual legit strip club and the bottom a bar. THAT would be pretty awesome and unique. Well kinda. At least this way the girls and the bar wouldnt get in trouble when the girls take their tops off up there. lol!

I'm surprised that the state or whomever is in charge of this just lets that old POS pontoon just sit there, it has to be an accident waiting to happen, also the dock is falling into the water, what happens if it finally fails?

In the mid '60's it was called "The Island A GO-GO" :D............out in front they had small area fenced off area that was called "jail A GO-GO" where they'd contain the rowdies waiting for the one Indian cop to transport them to the jail in Parker .............We were at the ski races one year staying at the el rancho motel. The Army was having war games outside of town and had parked a 10 wheeler diesel truck out behind the place. Kenny Moss an myself decided it would be a good idea to hotwire the truck an take a load of us to the Island A GO-GO,...............we made it to the railroad tracks, about 15 people in the back, Kenny driving me riding shotgun, all of a sudden the one cop in town then lit us up, EVERYBODY bailed from the truck except for me & Kenny :skull, took us to jail, my Pop had to bail me out, they wouldn't release Kenny to anybody but his Dad and his Dad was in Orange county :(..............he ended up sleepin in the jail that nite waiting for Dad to show up, we thought for sure we were going to Leavenworth for 20 yrs., theft of govt. property :D

They tried that for a little while without success right before it shut down for good.

imho that place is an eyesore in its current state and I can't believe the state or county hasn't bulldozed it or atleast got all the crap out of the water. It would take a huge sum of money to return it to its former glory. Then theres the problem of investing alot of cash in something that makes a little cash........Hard on Business;):skull

Yes "Rum Runners" back in the late 60's.

I stared at that place every weekend for the first 10 years of my young days.

The vid is like 45 minutes long.. I'm not even sure what size would allow a mass download like that. LOL

As well it's pretty much all titties and ass.. So that negates the usual type sites.

It was Rum Runners up until 1971.

My brother worked there most of that summer, while we were staying at our place at Jolly Knight. The owner kept holding out pay for the employees till after the 4th holiday weekend. After the big weekend he split with ALL that summer's take and hung employees, distributors, mortgage co, suppliers, etc. out to dry. Close to a Mil's worth.

I don't think they ever caught up with him. That's when Shubin bought it at bank auction and turned it into Sundance.

If you look at the 360 degree cam views on the real estate website, you will see it has been hammered pretty hard inside, but still holds some memories.

I did talk to a contractor friend of mine, thinking it might be razed and turned into lots for custom homes. As I recall, there is a sewer problem to overcome for the property also.

No. Isn't and never has been Indian land.

Septic is/was a mess. When we were Yuma County (pre-1984) the building inspection process wasn't too great up here in the north part of the county. (Not to mention that a bottle of spirits might as well have been listed on the inspection check-off form.)

The septic was never upgraded from the capacity for the "small" Rum Runners, which was essentially a doublewide trailer on a pier, to capacity for Sundance as it is now.

It was in the process of being re-zoned for Condos, but by changing the land use, the "grandfather" provision for septic would be lost. The new owner was looking into installing a treatment plant and later selling it to the Buckskin Sanitary District when they got up to that phase, but he had to have the re-zone approved before he could determine how big a system he needed. He tried for "high density" which would have allowed up to high number of units and building height, but the neighbors objected, so he then tried for "medium density" which would have larger units but fewer of them.

He was in the middle of negotiations with the neighbors and the county when the bottom fell out of the RE market, and the concept lost any hope of profitability. Now he just wants to unload it. At $4.5 Mil, I believe he'll still take a hefty loss, even if it sells for the asking price.

As far as septic, it would have to be removed and totally upgraded before anything could be opened there, but as long as it stays commercial, the septic will fall under the "grandfather" clause, but would take mucho work and money to bring it up to specs.

We made sure the gas tanks were taken off the boat when it first started sinking. The boat, by the way, is an old Riverside Casino shuttle boat.

The owner is responsible for anything falling off the property. As long as it stays inside the permitted premises, there's nothing anyone else can do about it.

Some of the floats for the bar dislodged last year and were scavenged by locals for their own docks. Other than that, there's been no real problems. We've had to chase a few people off from time to time. We have a standing trespassing order and the owner/agent will prosecute trespassers.

I see that thing sitting there are think why dont they just open up the bar thats on the water and sell Booze and Burgers. A good $2 Corona special would put that place back in biz. Put in some Port o Jons in if you have to. Kills me to see an asset like that just sitting amking no money but I'm sure there is more to it than I am realizing.

The lower left upriver portion was open for a while a few summers ago. I sat in there and ate $2.00 tacos and had some "bartender special" drinks with some friends. The whole place was open to walk through. Pretty crazy inside.

What a waste. Someone will have to take a huge loss for it to be a money maker again... :(
