Any members here own one?
My nephew has one and I’m pretty familiar with the vehicle. Is there something you need to know.Any members here own one?
No, I'm good on Sunbeams and for the most part a Healy guy it's just that I have a T-shirt from Tigers at Tahoe '03 that Carol Shelby autographed the back and thought I'd give it to a member if they happen to be Phatt and own a Tiger. I normally don't wear special T-s to work in or as grease rags so many T-s only get worn for an event or gathering of people that have the same interests take this place for example, before I sit down at the computer for a session at River Dave's I put on an RDP hat and T-Shirt so I can feel at one with the group. Even though I don't drink or smoke I still place me a can of coors light and Marlboro cigarettes on the desk with me.My nephew has one and I’m pretty familiar with the vehicle. Ya might wanna try doubling up on the $35 T's & Coors cuz I'm not so sure your "Oneness" theory is working. No, I'm good on Sunbeams and for the most part a Healy guy it's just that I have a T-shirt from Tigers at Tahoe '03 that Carol Shelby autographed the back and thought I'd give it to a member if they happen to be Phatt and own a Tiger. One shirt is all that Ardy gave me that is unless you count the trash bag full of T's that were going to the good will that Paul thru on my dock one morning.Ya might wanna try doubling up on the $35 T's & Coors cuz I'm not so sure your "Oneness" theory is working.
Maxwell Smart drove up in an Alpine in the earlier episodes as well as a Karmen Ghia..., Never had a Tiger… But when I lived aboard …got involved in about a seven vehicle trade and ended up with a Sunbeam Alpine…enough cans of STP made the engine stop knocking…$300 and the Alpine got me a ‘70 Torino GT Convertible…
My buddy has like a dozen of these things stashed away, bought them in the 70/80s when they were almost free. Vintage races a few of them. Somewhere I have a video from my car of following John Morton around Willow in one on a test day when he was vintage racing one.
nice story.Maxwell Smart killed any desire of a Sunbeam for me.
Back in the day, many decades ago I had an Austin Healy 3000 BJ8. Thought I was just the coolest....
One night, Let's just say I was driving fast and perhaps a little erratic.
Got pulled over and given a ticket, again let's just say it was to my advantage he didn't have me get out of the car.
I chose to fight it, hoping he wouldn't show up. He did, got my license suspended right then and there.
Yes, I drove myself to court. Of course I'm just going to drive home.
Well, we ride down in the same elevator and he strikes up a conversation by asking me why I chose to fight it.
Bear in mind I borderline hate this guy right now...
Then he asks how I got to court and how am I getting home. Also understand this is way before Cell Phones.
I shrugged my shoulders, I dunno...
He offers to give me ride. I relunctantly accept.
He walk over to his car, One of those cute little Maxwell Smart cars, Sunbeam.
He fires it up, Varoom, Rumble, rumble. I look over at him with a puzzled look. He just smiles and puts it in gear.
And we're off, rather agressively I might add. At a signal I ask what on earth has he done to it.
Ford 260 V8. He goes on to explan the Tiger Story with Carroll Shelby etc. etc..
We continued to have a nice conversation. We get to my destination, we say goodbye and he WISHES me well.
I was in my early 20's.
Learned three leasons that day.
1. I didn't know as much as I thought I did.
2. Not all SunBeams are created Equal.
3. Cops aren't necessarily bad guys...
Start by telling him not to lean on your car.View attachment 1279118
Grandpa owns the grey one. Did a full resto himself at 80 years old. He tells me when he’s moved on I will have to take care of it for him.
Speaking of John Morton great guy and fast drove my vintage go karts remember taking his plane to Davis for an event we talked about all the stuff he had driven he drives a lot of vintage car events now days for Collier museum scarabs cobras ect
Your a funny guy! I never would have thought to say that!Start by telling him not to lean on your car.
Here's a couple of pix of John Morton. Lew Spencer at the wheel, Ted Sutton standing on the right and Morton looking into the car.Speaking of John Morton great guy and fast drove my vintage go karts remember taking his plane to Davis for an event we talked about all the stuff he had driven he drives a lot of vintage car events now days for Collier museum scarabs cobras ect
Such a nice guy.. And silly fast! Although somewhere I have a screenshot from my phone when Andy was beating John at Laguna Seca.. Sure, John's car was acting up a little, but the timing screen still read with Andy one position ahead of John..Speaking of John Morton great guy and fast drove my vintage go karts remember taking his plane to Davis for an event we talked about all the stuff he had driven he drives a lot of vintage car events now days for Collier museum scarabs cobras ect
Cool deal! I have pix that I shot of Morton while at Willow with the Venice crew and some I shot of him that were hanging on the walls of Peter Brocks shop. The pix at Brocks are pretty cool of Morton in his youth. I'll try to find them.Such a nice guy.. And silly fast! Then there was this one.. I mean, when John was winning championships one after another, it was at Road Atlanta.. So to pull out onto that pit lane, and follow that car down to grid.. Just epic!
As a kid I wasn’t allowed to look at my dad’s cars too hard let alone touch them and God forbid you didn’t use the door handle to shut the door. Times have changed but the lessons are forever in my brain. You’re a funny guy! I never would have thought to say that!
Cool Story. I knew Carroll's original plan had a SBC, wasn't sure on the details why it got nixed.Another one of them little cars that got an American V-8 transplant.
Carroll Shelby approached Donald Healey with a plan to install a small block Chevrolet motor into the Healey. The proposal was nixed by British Motor Corporation and Chevrolet and CS turned to Ford and AC to give birth to the Cobra.
According to John Morton's book,"Inside Shelby American: Wrenching and Racing with Carroll Shelby in the 1960s" the Healey played a part in the history of the 427 Cobra as well. According to Morton, Phil Remington gave Ted Sutton the job of installing the 427 into the Cobra because he was impressed with the job Sutton had done installing a small block Ford in his Austin-Healey. Sutton said the task of fitting the 427 into the Cobra was very similar to installing the 289 into the Healey.
Apparently the Sutton Healey still survives.

Here are a few pix of photos that are hanging on Peter brocks wall. I have photos from Willow with Morton and his Tiger just not sure where they are at the moment.Cool Story. I knew Carroll's original plan had a SBC, wasn't sure on the details why it got nixed.
When I had my Healey, the older guys at work kept nudging me to put a SBF in it. They kept insisitng it would just slide in.
Didn't realize this was the Genesis of it. Have to admit, it looks very nice snugged in there,,,
