Summer is starting off about as I expected it to...lol

First official trip (Wife, kid, SIL, dog, Dad) is Father's day....so I figured I'd head out this weekend on my own, drag the boat out and make sure that runs, get the trailer all set up after winter storage....see what broke/order parts/fix it, etc....

Giving the boat one last look-over this morning before I hook it up and notice the bottom of the boat is full of oil.....nice. The only oil in the boat is the trim pump (outboard). I get to pulling that out to see WTF and the reservoir, which has been attached to this particular trim pump and not leaking since 1983, decided that now was the time to loosen up and dump all the oil out of it. Of course, the o-ring is rock hard and broken....and also of course, it's not a standard size o-ring that I can pick up at McMaster.

I'm not even mad, because this is how things go for me. lol.

We'll get there at some point.

I wouldn't use it for long term, but I think Harbor Freight has an o-ring kit that has lots of options. I have a store here that would definitely have what you need, but there are probably similar stores where you are. Don't give up yet!

O-Rings and Things in Fontana will get you taken care of. You can bring the old one in with you or just give them a call if you know the sizes.

We have 2 boats and 2 or 3 jet skis…can’t remember how many are in storage or if one went in the dumpster…lol. At least one thing is always functional, usually 2, sometimes 3 lol.

I actually have a “ski” and a “race” block of wood that I cut to create the appropriate trim angle 10 years ago when the trim cylinder dumped its load….in the morning I picked up the engine and jammed the ski block in there at about neutral trim and ski’d everyone that wanted to ski, then pulled that out and stuck the “race” 2x4 in there to have fun later.

I like to think I’ve progressed since then, but maybe not lol

That's where I get O-rings for my bearing buddies. I've got a set on the trailer and a rebuilt set ready to go, the spares go with me on long trips incase I need one or come across someone that's stuck on the side of the road.

On Memorial Day weekend I was on the water with a friend and I noticed a few boats that had expired tags...I made a comment that if that was me, I would have been ticketed and kicked off the lake already.....then this week, I pulled the boat over to the boat launch on a weekday to just dunk the drive in so that I can fire it up to get the motor warm and sure as sh*t I get hit up immediately about my expired tag....lol

I’m always terrible about putting the stickers on everything though I usually have the sticker in (not on) the vehicles. I never get pulled over by anyone on land. I’d figure the LEO can look it up and see the vehicle registration is actually current even though the sticker isn’t.

Since I’m a cheap bastard, mounted all the tires on the rims using the “walk around barefoot” method…worked considerably better than expected. I’ll throw the 4runner on the rack tomorrow and deal with the TPM sensors, then take ‘em up to Juan’s tire shop for a quick balance….

if you have access to the right thickness o-ring, grab a longer one or 2 orings. cut to length and a dot of crazy glue and you will be golden. the "make your own" o-ring kits come with a spool of cord and the crazy glue.

I machined a 2 piece mold this morning with a fill hole and and overflow hole (never made a mold before....figured those were 2 important features) and filled it with silicone....then made another couple sample molds out of scrapbinium to take apart before I take the right size thing apart to see if the schmoo cured....none of it is anywhere near cured, so that idea was stupid. lol.

I don't like the CA glue idea....even though I've done it in the past, but if the trim fails when I need it to not fail...there's a very good chance ima get wet....did that once, don't wanna do it again. I try not to halfass shit on my boat because it tends to hurt

Ha....My stickers are expired, but I paid for new ones (and the quagga mussel stickers)....I did 8 or 9 vehicles/vessels online in one shot because my luck works like that. I have the email receipt saying I paid....I sorta remember the stickers showing up in the mail, but fuck if I know where they are now......I printed out the email reciept showing that I paid and taped it to the boat with clear packing tape....Burden of proof will be on them at that point....or not, we'll see lol.

I bought a DB electrical pump when mine went out and it has worked fantastic. Not sure if they have your same pump but it may be an option if your o ring fails again. They range in price depending on which pump is needed but it sure beats oem price.

Being poor here in BHC, with winter weather and all, the squirt bote gets exercised regularly. Electric over.... cable trim diverter has yet to leak. But it's a ditch pump, so there's that.

I hope your disasterous o-ring failure is easily remedied.

Mean while, I'll just mash on it.
