I found the Buffalo Chip a show in itself however the back roads riding is beautiful. And it's crowded as f..ck but a great time to be had. Local jail served steak, rice and cool aid for lunch o_O and a burn out on Main St gets you all that and a $1100 fine :(, exhibition of speed.
Me=all about fun, them=all about a years income. Its is a trip to make and there are some members going this year and a few with stories from last year.

100% truth. Keep the craziness in the campgrounds and all is good.

The 80th will be packed. Better get something lined up quickly.

I have mostly stayed at Glencoe which is across the street from Full Throttle. They provide their own entertainment and bars on site along with the famous titty ally. What i look at is chickenshit is cops pull over people leaving FTS to go to Glencoe which crosses one street. They sit there and give DUIs just going across the street. Once you do get pulled over in town they will try to hit you with every possible infraction.

For me one weekend in Sturgis is all I ever needed. The major campgrounds still charge you for two weeks regardless.

The beauty of Sturgis is literally the journey no matter how corny that sounds. Gotta hit Yellowstone and just take your time.

Done it 7 or 8 times. Its a great trip and I suggest every rider go at least once in their life.

Party hard in the campgrounds and not around town and it will be a fun time. Be prepared for crazy crowds.

Did it last year, will do it again this year, sturgis is sold out for lodging, we booked our room when we left the hotel last year. Friends just got a place, closest was in a town about 20 miles away.

We take 5 days to get there from havasu, no freeways, about 250-300 miles a day, lots of stops. Our route last year started in havasu, to flagstaff, up into Colorado, through Rocky Mountain national park, etc. this year we are going up through Utah route to meet at our friends place in Montana for a few days then ride to sturgis from there. We fly back and ship the bike.

We hauled ass there and back, three days each direction and were supposed to be in Sturgis seven days but left on the sixth day because we got bored. In hindsight we should of taken four or five days to get there and taken different routes each direction, five days max is all I need of Sturgis but would be good with four. Have fun

47A33A0A-13CC-4C33-8933-6B8B2A8EDB0B.jpeg It all depends how much time you have, we usually take 12-14 days, do around 5,000 miles to and from So Cal. Going thru Zion is a nice ride, or head down the 40 to the Grand Canyon. Have lunch in Vail, heading to Denver stop in at the Buffalo Bills touristy place, great view of Denver from there. If you stay over in Cheyenne make sure you have reservations to stay there ahead of time because if there's a rodeo in town you are not gonna find a room, anywhere. If that's the case, stay in Fort Collins. In Sturgis, I have been to all the bars, the only one I recommend is One-Eyed Jacks, you don't need to go anywhere else. Dead Wood, Black Hills Harley has all the vendors, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, The Badlands, Walls Drugs Custard National Park just be careful thru there, Tatanka is everywhere. A lot to see take your time.
On the way home, stop in at the Little Big Horn Custards the last stand and do the tour, the battlefield is nothing like Hollywood depicted in the movies with John Wayne. There's a sidewalk you can take to walk through part of the battlefield, wherever they found a dead soldier they put up a white headstone, pretty ominous to see all of those headstones littering the battlefield. We head to Red Lodge, Montana, Mexican restaurant called Bogarts for dinner stay the night before heading into Yellowstone, See Old Faithful then into Jackson, Wyoming after the Tetons. Or after Little Big Horn head straight for the coast and take the coast all the way home. The 80th will be my last Sturgis run :( The wife and I have done Daytona Bike Week, Myrtle Beach Bike Week and Laconia Bike Week, the bucket list is done for the 4 major rallies. Wheels Up, ride safe :)

That but the Full Throttle has moved to the former Broken Spoke Campground since the original burned down. They have a huge pool with bands and contests. Not sure but Full Throttle probably put the kabash on some of the pool antics. When it was Broken Spoke anyone could go there and use the pool. Glencoe is the best campground hands down. It's also anything (and I mean anything) goes. Buffalo Chip does not allow outside alcohol, Glencoe welcomes it. In six trips there I had run in with the police once when I got a $30.00 parking ticket in Deadwood. Never have I had any other issue with the Police. I saw them chew a guy out for doing a burnout on Main st. but they didn't give him a ticket. Where you need to be real careful in Highway 79 between Full Throttle and Main Street. They lower the speed limit to 35 in a section there and rigorously enforce it. The police do not come into the campgrounds unless they are called. The riding around there is spectacular.

I am going this year and staying at a house a little away from the chaos. We have done Glencoe a couple times and loved it, except for the traffic getting back to it. When we were there it was called "pervert ally" not "Tittie Ally" The riding is epic, the party is great and the people watching is like no other. We are going to go the week before for the riding and only staying a couple of Rally days just to get the 80th anniversary feel.

And in Sturgis, always make sure your feet touch the ground at stop signs. Thats what they look for, cop pulled me over for it, saw that I was not wasted and said have a nice day. We were pleasantly surprised after our first trip for 79, it was far different then what you will see on TV, very similar to Havasu media coverage, ie if you want to avoid the stupid stuff you definitely can. We met people from all over the world, all very cool people, not one fucktard. We usualy got up at 7 while in Sturgis to start a day ride, done by 2 or so, if you get up that early the roads are empty as most people are still vomiting.

This year we are riding to Red Lodge Montana and spending a few days there riding the Bear Tooth Pass and then heading to Sturgis.

X of Speed is as worse on your insurance as a DUI.

I have to agree with this 100%. Did Sturgis 8 years ago for 1 week. If I was going to do it again I would take 2 weeks, and only spend 2 days in Sturgis and spend the rest of the time riding.

I plan to take 4 days up and 5 back, two different routes. 4 days in Sturgis seems to be just fine and I recently found a little house in Spearfish on AirBNB.

Iron Horse INN in Whitewood still has rooms, My son and I been there before its just a few miles north of Sturgis, we are riding north up to Glacier National Park this year.
There is another place to stay with reasonable prices called Gentle Eagle Manor,
this place is across the hwy from Buffalo Chip, with Cabins, RV, or Tent camp

This will give you an idea of how crowded it is. It’s a photo on the side of a building in Sturgis.

Been there and done that, that's why my son and I are riding north to Glacier National Park in Monatna instead of Sturgis again, you have to ride once .
I said ride not trailer it, be a man and ride.

We were about 100 miles out from sturgis and made one last pee stop before getting there. All these trailers are pulling and everyone’s unloading their bikes so they can ride in like a bad ass. Lame. My wife called them pussies.

Next Year will be the Exciting time at Sturgis 2021 81 anniversary.
81 is a metonym. It stands for the 8th letter of the alphabet which is an H, and the 1st letter of the alphabet which is an A, HA = Hells Angels.
