I’m at Cattail Cove and my outdrive won’t lower down out of trailer mode. It’s dead on the throttle and on the dash. The fuse is good and I even swapped it out with a different one just to check. Nothing. Everything else works as it should engine starts, trim tabs, lights, blower, pump, everything. It worked last time I was out a couple weeks ago.

I don’t wanna go home what am I misssing?? Help please.

It’s a Bravo One.

Can you put power directly to the drive and see if it does anything IE bypass the switch. I've had the switch go out in mine a few times.

Son of a bitch, ok I’ll dig deeper now. I don’t have any clicking or sounds whatsoever. That might be the issue.

Thank you for the fast reply. I appreciate it.

Yep, trailer button and throttle dead no sound at all. All the connections are good and the pump and everything are super clean and look fine.

It should be an easy fix if someone has the part in town

Have you checked the wires from the senders. Will do anything in up mode?

Jump The solenoid. What throttle do you have? My old boat did it. Wires were frayed in the control. Has to take the throttle apart, cut old wires, soldered new wires and it worked fine!

Neither direction works, no sounds like they’re trying no clicks just dead.

Is there anybody in town that might have this part? I could swap it out pretty easy. I wish I had a multi meter with me.

Just some how get power to the GREEN wire on the pump. Jumper cable, large channel locks anything to transfer power from the heavy RED feed to the Heavy green. GREEN down BLUE up. Might have to do the same to go back up. Wish you were at Windsor, I'm 5 minutes away.

I’m head into town, I’ll see what I can do from there.

To everyone who replied I appreciate the info and I hope I can return the favor sometime.

I don't have a Mercury I have a Volvo Penta. I have a reset button on the inside where the fluid reservoir is.

If you have a test light check for power and ground on the ten gauge wires that run from the battery to the pump. If you have power at the square fuse block make sure you have power after it, green wire is down blue wire is up. Its going to be one of three things bad ground no power

When removing and replacing the pump like in the video, do the hydraulics require bleeding? Or just cycle a few times and refill.

West Marine should have what you need.
I had corrosion underneath the solenoid terminals stud that looked good on the front but was not ketting a good contact. So check all your connections.

West Marine on industrial should have the solenoid parts you needs, this happened to me 2 years ago during desert storm and they had the parts, I would pick up a multimeter also, and go from there.

Just cycle it a few times and make sure the fluid level is up to snuff.

have you change the battery's since last time you used the boat? if so sometimes the boat mfg run the 10 gauge wires for the trim pump right to the battery's and maybe you missed one when hooking up the battery's.

Their used to be a mechanic on duty right there at Cat Tail with parts.
Has that situation changed?

Ok, so the new fuse lasted all of one cycle down with the drive, then I put a another one in to raise it back up. Solonoids seem to work fine now, there’s a short somewhere I’m guessing

Just get a wrapper from a stick of gum and wrap the fuse. Good as new. :looking:

Best of luck to finding the issue and getting on the water!!!!

Your pump itself MAY be drawing too many amps or/and one of the rams has a seal grabbing to hard and over working the pump. Something has the pump working to hard I believe. If it was a dead short the fuse would have left in an instant of hitting the switch.

Ha! I learned that trick from a truck driver when I was a kid. But the foil wrapper needs to be from a pack of Lucky Strikes.

Yeah that sounds like it might be the issue, or at least it’s the right place to look next. I was kinda bullshitting myself thinking/hoping it was just a simple fuse.

Thanks everybody... I’m going home I’ve had enough for today.

Disconnect the pump wires from the solenoids, then see if the fuse still blows. If it does, the pump is fine, and the problem lies upstream. Keep pulling out more components until the fuse stops popping when you get on the switch.

If the fuse doesn’t blow holding the switch down with the pump disconnected, time for a pump.

Bummer to hear that you were not able to make it happen. BEst of luck to you and the resolution.

2 wires at the solenoid, green and blue, if you have a piece of wire jump direct from 12V positive to the green wire, old saying green for grass blue for sky, if its the solenoid.

I missed the later replies, good luck

Well I made it out about an hour before sunset. Made the loop around the island and back to Cattail Cove. I’m a dumdass, I bought 20a fuses and the original that was bad was a 30a, I don’t know why I did that. I bought some 30’s and it worked fine. I still think there might a problem but it’s working now...
I really debated if I was going tell everybody I got the wrong ones first but oh well shit happens and I learned a lesson today. And I got a new multi meter too.

Once again thanks to everyone for the help today. And I think it’s pretty obvious I need a new prop as Groper was so kind to point out.

Grab a handful of bigger fuses, go boating worry about that shit later

You must've missed this :D:D
