A boat that made headlines on this site when it sank and was stolen hours later has resurfaced in the desert, partially stripped and dumped there.

According to its owner, these photos show the location it was left, on the California side of the Colorado River near Parker, with its tower and sound system gone, one side windshield missing and other parts stripped off the boat.

The Sheriff?s Department?s Curt Bagby confirmed the finding, saying detectives have been working the case, fingerprinting the boat on Tuesday, following up on ?strong leads? and actively pursuing the suspects.

?We have some good information about the theft that we?re acting on,? he added.

A video showing the boat sinking in front of Roadrunner Floating Dock Bar on Friday, August 7th went viral, having been seen by over 226,000 people on Facebook. The boat was brought to shore and parked, according to Nathan Miller, the owner. By Sunday morning, it had been stolen, along with its trailer which was parked in a lot nearby.

Miller says it will cost thousands of dollars to get the boat back in working order. Worse: he had just purchased the boat recently and it was its first time out on the Parker Strip, where he has been coming for years.

Just got the text, insurance is going to total it and offered him $23,500 or $22000 he keeps it. Should he keep it and fix it or let them take it and buy another?

I'm really hoping this is a joke. If not, then he should cut his losses and avoid the insurance fraud charges.

Take the money and buy a bigger bilge pump.

Also he needs to factor in the money he got for the tower and other parts.

He should take that money and buy something that stays on land.

Can 23500 buy another one? Aren't those in the 80's... And does that mean he paid cash! In order to not have insurance? Cobra wouldn't sell me the boat without insurance [emoji4]

Hard to imagine not having insurance, especially for a boat. We didn't finance and I still have it. I swear we are helping out my State Farm agent's kids through college with all our policies :)

It was a joke vic. Everyone keeps claiming insurance fraud although multiple places it is stated there was no insurance. Just letting everyone hear what they want. That way they feel they solved the case. I added the smiley face.

Was just curious. My dad gets some boating magazine with all the new wakeboard boats. They are nice but my goodness do they cost a lot

You would be surprised by how many people think that just because a boat is paid off, they don't need insurance.

I thought you meant 80s as the year. Yes new ones can be even more. This boat is a 14-17k boat from what I have seen listed. Insurance is required by banks that hold the lien on boats sold. They require it to protect there investment. Same deal with cars although auto insurance is a law having vessel insurance is not. If you pay cash for a boat no one requires insurance.

Damn. I don't have the big horsepower or boat, so my premium is very inexpensive... right around $700 a year.

One accident without insurance can really wreck you financially... pun intended. :)
