I’ve saved $5k for landscaping and construction projects in the last 4 months paying cash. Dumbest thing ever.
Private small businesses where the owner collects want cash as it tends to disappear into pockets.

Large chains where the owner is not present hate cash because it too disappears into pockets......

I totally get it. Having fewer payment options seems dumb. But that begs the question, what are all those cameras in every Starbucks for then?

But what should I expect from an establishment that is trying to force in person voting only for their unionization voting 😂

Yore telling me large chains can't control cash disappearing from the til, really?!!! 😆

Most know what's going on here, it's the largest employer around looking to steal more money via taxation.

I don't go there anyway unless there's no other choice. Sadly that's usually the case in Barstow where I always stop. What's the best alternative in Havasu (good coffee, some breakfast eggs and sandwhich stuff + a good vibe, that's on a main road)?

In Barstow try Jennie’s for breakfast.

Some people prefer the Starbucks but I’ll take an Am/Pm coffee any day.

Someone has to go to the bank and pick up change to open a register for each shift and/or cashier, then close a register, count the money, fill out a deposit slip, deposit the money every shift and/or time a cashier changes to track who is short. And it would be the most expensive employee, a manager.

You are then required to have a safe, are more susceptible to robbery, mistakes in making change, theft, blah, blah, blah......

Read their annual report, they are rapidly getting to half of all people have ordered and paid on the app before they step into the store. And they want this number to reach as high as possible so they can increase margin.

It's just a business decision based upon industrial engineering. They have calculated the loss of a few customers is way less than the cost of having a register and slowing down the throughput making change.

As you say, they are a business and have every right to do as they wish. They are right, very few of their patrons will care.

Because the average transaction is so small, Starbucks interchange fees are almost 3 percent despite their transaction volumes.

And yet they would still rather pay that cost than take cash. That should tell the whole story with respect to the true cost of accepting cash to anyone willing to look at it objectively.

Lets be honest here. They are just adding those fees to their product and passing it on, not taking the 3% hit on every transaction.

In high school (the 1980s) I worked at K-Mart and they paid the employees in cash.
Every Friday you visit the pay window, they gave you an envelope with a stub showing your deductions etc, and cash down to the penny.
I’m not sure when they stopped doing that but it was kind of handy on Friday nights when you worked till closing.

It’s an expense thing. They pay anywhere from 1.6% to 3% of each credit card transaction to the CC processing company. I saw the math briefly (one of my customers) and while they forecast a same reduction in sales at those locations that go cashless, the cc processing fees offset that revenue lose.

I read somewhere years ago that they did a study and found that by giving cash they would get a high % back spent in the store. I dont remember the number, but it was high and a smart idea on their part. Kept the money in the store.

Cash not accepted, EBT welcome.

pretty sure 90% of their transactions are credit card or APP purchases... I can't remember the last time I ever used cash at a starbucks. Still a weird thing to see any company saying they will not accept cash. Kinda funny too though as this discriminates against poor people and the homeless. How's a bum supposed to get his morning Latte?

Let's not forget that very few can count change these days.

Years ago I used to pick up lunch for my clients at Tender Greens. They were cashless back in 2018/19, the irony was the tip jar full of cash at the register 😂

Valid points, it's the end game of the global cartel that should concern Americans.

I worked for a family owned AC & Heating company where the service guys were paid cash for any OT. The catch was that the powertripping owner wouldn't go to the bank for cash until 4:30. He kinda forced guys to stay out in the field to take that "one last call" on Fridays. Come in at 4:30 and stand around for an hour waiting for Roger to come back from the bank or work until after 5 on a Friday.
Most of the service guys hated him for that.

Another question, no cash, no cash tips. All tips are now traceable and taxable, bummer for the employees.
