Any insight would be great.

Get there early, it will be a shit show for sure out there!

Not sure where you are planning to camp but there are some cool spots over by the "wagon wheel area" where there are some cool kids tracks that go through large rock formations and will keep the kids happy for hours.

We are headed out this Sunday hoping to get a spot off Searles Station and the rail road tracks. Its all open camping- you can usually find several flat areas for the kids to put around without issue.

FWIW AT&T service is pretty dicey out there.

Lots of cool desination rides including Randsburg, Schmidt Tunnel, etc.. We go out there alot during the season, its a great place but it defiently gets busy.

Happy to try and answer any other questions.

If you see me out there flag me down.

Thank you for the insight, family friends invited us. I think they are headed out Wednesday, I don't have the slightest clue as to where they are planning to camp, they said they'd drop a pin. I've never been there. We have Verizon and T-Mobile. Unfortunately we can't leave until noon on Thursday. It wouldn't be the first time I have had to find camp at new place on a busy weekend . LOL

We are pretty familiar with Mojave(Jawbone/Dove/Red Rock/Cal City Etc..) It's our regular riding spot for desert stuff.

Man that aera is kinna where I've been riding for decades.

It's gonna be PACKED over turkey day. Letting the kids ride off alone will not be an option for a concerned parent such as yourself.

Flat? No. As far as riding goes.

Flat? As far as camping options? No problem, but you'll have to be out there way before the crowds show up to get a good spot.

There are Definitely a lot of destination rides, but those spots will be packed with people as well. Especially The Pinnacles and places like that. Randsburg will be a ZOO!

Maybe the far north west corner of Dove Springs might be a viable family option?

Unless you like crowds of course.

Joe- thanks for all the pics. Obviously turkey day isn’t the most ideal weekend for the kids to be riding in a safe environment, doesn’t matter where we go. It’s one of the biggest riding weekends of the year.

They aren’t ready to ride alone. The youngest ones especially. This past weekend was the first “dad ride” where I took them on a loop away from camp. Typically I set them up on a track next to or around camp.

My 12 year is old enough but he hasn’t really ridden the desert enough to know where he’s at. I’d be worried he’d get lost. He’s ready for real rides though.

So I’m not worried about that.

Any destination rides we will load up in the RZR.

My concern is driving out there and regretting it because they can’t ride….

Part of me just wants to go for it and figure it out.

Understood.

And that totally depends (as you know) where they decide to camp!

If you decide to go for it, take a whole bunch of firewood.

The upper desert gets 🥶

P. S. If you go by yourself, camp over by Trona. Nobody camps over there. The kids will be Perfectly safe. 👍🏼

FYI, I have a few numbers for guys that deliver firewood if needed. Its not the best wood and burns quick but it beats loading and unloading out of an enclosed and not terribly expensive if you divde it up with the group.

I wish I had a truck for firewood. The enclosed is packed FULL!

We were in Jawbone for the first trip of the year last weekend. Weather was perfect.

The littlest ones going for a ride with their uncle! 👍 View attachment 1302566

That's our favorite area, much quieter than Cal City but not sure how busy on Turkey day. We go to Havasu for the great weather!

We have camped at Spangler by the tracks but a bit too crowded for my taste. We prefer Stevens Mine Road. Lots of good open terrain in that area.

Have fun!

I Just got home from Spangler 10 minutes ago. Heading back out again in a few days for Thanksgiving. It is always hit and miss, one year you get next to a great group and the following year you get next to assholes that steal your wood or blast music all night or do pit races around your camp and so one🤬 If it was up to me I would skip Thanksgiving but it is the one time the whole family shows so I get out voted.

Always heard about Trona and have been wanting to check it out. Sounds like our group( 3-4 families) may end up at Dove Springs. Our kids(14 & 18) are kind of done with Cal City…

Is this area you are talking about closer to the gas line service road area?

I'm not a fan of Cal City. We end up there with our group though...
