I just need something to take the morning chill out of the master bedroom during the winter. I’ve always heard horror stories about one tipping over and the house burning down. I figure technology has gotten better. About 572 square feet. I Go to the experts here, what can you tell me? Thanks in advance.

Let me add I have a kickass wood burning stove but with my schedule it doesn’t make sense. i could just turn the heater on but the house is on propane and I figured a space heater would be cheaper on electricity than the propane. What are the thoughts.

I had a 30 year old one that I used to heat the travel trailer rather than run through my propane. It shuts off when tipped over. Add to that, it never tipped over without assistance from me. Keep it away from flammables and you should be fine.

I prefer the oil filled radiator type as they don't dry the air out. The new ones are fairly energy efficient and some have built in timers.

I don't like the open element heaters that can potentially start fires so I do the radiator heater and then I take a box fan and prop it up near the radiator and blow through it.

Takes two outlets and electricity for both but works pretty well and no way it starts a fire.

Also it should be noted I can't imagine they sell any heaters today that don't auto shut off if they get knocked over. But point some of them closely at anything flammable and that is still possible.

I have a couple portable electric heaters for my mobile in Havasu. They work fine and are available at all the box stores.

Costco currently has them in store on sale. I use them at the river pad and in my bedroom.

i have the same issue. Large master suite with high ceilings. Mornings are cool with HVAC on (rest of the house is fine) so I use a radiator as mentioned above. Does the job for those chilled mornings without pulling all the moisture out. It’s a slow heat and silent which is important.

Also to add, I run the ceiling fan reversed to even the temps and to keep air flow moving. Works well

I have run various cheap ones and they all have tip over sensor. Most are so sensitive they trip on level ground and you have to shake them to get them to turn on. I run them under my desk pointed at my feet for a few hours every morning during the winter.

I had 1 of them act up a little. Called with no receipt and the lady did a one time free replacement.

I had one similar to this for many years. It looks like they no longer make the model I had, this one is a little smaller. It was completely quiet and just gave off a nice warmth. It's a ceramic convection heater. I used it for the kitchen area at the ranch. We did not have forced air heat there, and in the morning, I didn't want to build a fire before I went to work. In Reno, I used it for what you are looking for, to take the chill off in the tiled master bath in the morning.

Thank you and that’s it. Not enough time in the morning to build a fire and pretty much a waste of wood at night. Just need to take the chill off.

I’m currently doing the same thing. Get an old school one that has a mechanical switch. Put on a timer so it comes on before I get up then shuts itself off.

They’re all pretty much 1500 watts. The old school reflective units get pretty hot but seem sketchy with kids/pets. The units with fans use some of their 1,500 watts to power the fan so will be a little cooler but will throw the heat.

We use one of the oil filled units in our family room in the winter. works great and does not dry out the air

I recommend a heated blanket, then when the alarm rings, get up and take a cold water shower.

most bedroom circuits are wired with 14guage wire protected by a 15amp breaker. the NEC rule is you should not exceed 80% load which is 12amps, 120volts times 12 amps is 1440watts so 1500watt heaters will work but over time you should expect to have electrical problems! buy one that is dual wattage 1500/750 AND RUN ON 750,

All of them are 1500 watts max, that’s a ton of power if you are going to use it for several hours. I had two running last winter to offset my natural gas bill because I have solar. The Solar couldn’t keep up with the draw from the two space heaters.

The drying out of the air is not caused by heat. What ever method you use to heat the air will increase air leakage and pull in dry cold air from outside

I inherited a dyson fan that has a heater setting as well. Works amazing but they are expensive, since this is RDP the cost shouldn't matter since we all pay cash for everything

Per NEC code for the last 50+ years all recepticals are 12 gauge with 20 amp breakers. 14 gauge is used for lighting circuits on a 15 amp breaker.

They are pretty efficient as well! I use mine in the bedroom and office before and after I fire up the furnace for the season?
