Southwest Gas connection$$!! Need RD connection

A number of years ago I had SW Gas run a NG line to my Havasu house as it never had NG. I paid about $1,500. The run was about 125 feet. Fair price.

FF to today, after three weeks of waiting I got a hammer cost from SW Gas in Las Vegas for a house that we just purchased. It does not have NG or fiber, which sucks. Surrounded by a new housing tract too. NG everywhere. House is close to mine in Southwest Las Vegas, just a great area to live out the rest of my life.

So they quoted me $16,500 to run NG and set the meter. The main line is directly in front of my house in the street, but a 160' run to the meter area they choose.

Any chance that someone on the boards has a connection to reduce this joke of a cost? And COX wants 10G to run fiber to my house from NEXT DOOR vault!!

Thanks in advance. Propane is the only option, and with a pool heater and fire tables, that is costly.

Get a standard from SW Gas on how and where the meter needs to be set. Then run the line from the meter location to near your curb or sidewalk if the gas line is in the street. That way SW Gas only needs to set the meter and make the connection to the gas line. Any decent plumbing contractor can do that work.

Unisource gas in havasu charges $16ish/ft if you dig the trench and $22/ft if they dig the trench. Seems like southwest is trying to get you for $100/ft?

You should be able to use the same trench for your cox line once they shade the trench. I have a buddy that ran his own fiber line to a nearby vault saving him tons of money. You should be able to get it close to their vault and they do the handoff.

Unfortunately, the vault for Cox is that the other end of the single-family residence next to my property so that’s not gonna work but I’m gonna try to get a few things in to play at once if I can. I could buy a pretty nice car for what these donkeys are charging.

SW Gas will not let you run your own line. They will ask you to use one of their approved subs. They inspect the trench, shading, piping etc. As least that’s how they operate for commercial jobs in Phx. You might be able to ask the sub if you can at least dig the trench to save money?

Gonna see how that pencils out after I talk to them. I’ve got my own septic which is excellent and our own well with about a 6000 gallon tank triple filters RO system looks pretty clean.

They can bring it just inside property and do in ground meter in a box. Then anyone can run from there to house, backyard etc…

Rare a utility company will let anyone touch their side. Since they own from meter out, they’re not gonna own work done by others. And if they have list of approved subs it will be same cost or more. Insurance, bonding, public works permits, city, county etc all want their ass covered for anything in public right of way = your gonna pay.

Based on those prices both SW Gas and Cox are giving you a price to directional bore the utilities.

I would ask if they would allow you to trench instead. Most utilities allow a customer to dig the trench and then the utility installs the pipes/wires, and then you back fill.
