Sometimes I gelcoat boats

It’s what I do.
I gelcoat boats for a couple few builders.
And sometimes.
While doing my job, I am a part of fulfilling a dream some guy had since he was a 15 year old kid.
And people pay me to do this

Shot an Eliminator 21 Daytona today.
Tomorrow the guys lay down the carbon fiber and do their magic.

The 15 year old kids dream was a bad ass 21 Daytona.
Many years later the man is building it.

A jet pump

And a metric shit Ton of turbo charged terror.

I can’t say I remember it specifically but that is somewhat of a unicorn.
Most folks went dark cap and transom, black, dark blue or that super dark purple that looked so sinister.

Does it have 1/8” pinstripes or was it one of the more challenging for us, 1/16”?
I used to hate taping those 1/16 boats, but? Danny paid me much better on them.
Especially after he tried it a couple times

Seems like I remember jim telling me it was a $3500 up charge for the 1/16” pinstripes, I always wondered how much the guy that actually taped and painted the boat got paid. I think that was mid to late 80s or possibly early 90s.

@Gelcoater - question... How or what are you doing to keep the previous gelcoats from alligatoring after a new layer is shot?
I spray a lot of gelcoat on bigger hulls and while it's usually only a two color job, the wrinkling or lifting always has me grabbing my ankles.

Without seeing what you are doing and what you use it could be many issues.

Keep track of your mil thickness and catalyst ratios, and a closer eye on how the material you are using is promoted.

Some is promoted for a short 8 minute gel time, others may be 18-22 minute gel times, and often they don’t play well together without knowing and getting out in front of possible problems.

Let's hope that the builder puts a Coosa Board Composite transom in the 21. Wood is good in the Morning... but wood is not good in a transom anymore. Just say "NO" to wood transoms.
