This must have been an exciting moment.

😁

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Emirates Team New Zealand worked on Friday to replace a piece of the hull of its yacht that was damaged in a crane incident after its first warmup race at the America’s Cup.

The mishap happened late on Thursday when the 75-foot yacht named “Taihoro” was being removed from the water after racing.

Team leader Grant Dalton said the multimillion-dollar boat fell some six meters (20 feet) onto the support cradle at their team base inside Barcelona’s old port. Dalton said the impact sounded “like a bomb went off.” The boat was eventually lifted to get the tips of its critically important hydrofoils off the concrete ground.

You fire up the grill
You make a beer run, don’t forget the energy drinks.
Well have this baby ready by morning

Amazing it didn’t sustain more critical damage

In high school it was pizza and soda. Later years, pizza and beer and my buddies would help me ring and bearing a motor, and have it back in ready to drive in short order.

Multi-million dollar boat? Champagne and caviar? Grilled lobster and a nice bottle of wine?

Guys went balls out to get back in the game though.
Yeah, that was impressive. Performing carbon fiber repairs on large areas while navigating time restraints isn't easy.

Speaking of CF repairs, one of the teams I worked on had two highly skilled individuals that did all of that work, and were considered the best in the paddock. Repairing crash damage on a tub or fabricating small parts includes lots of grinding and sanding, creating quite a mess. They had the same mother, and were a couple of years apart in age.

Of course they were known as the Dust Brothers.

😁

I think @RaceTec was familiar with their reputation.

Anyone else use a temperamental cherry picker to drop a motor in? "A little more, a little more, just a smidge...." BANG!

Yep it happened when I was putting a motor in my 65 c-10. I was so pissed I pulled the motor back out and sent the truck back to the painter. Engine bay was painted same color as the truck. Expensive lesson.

Hell Yeah, I learned some cool tricks from them! That is some large surface area for repairs on that hull!
There were a number of times repairs were completed at that track that shouldn't have made it back out of the garage, but they did and they worked!

Is there any other way?
Like @monkeyswrench, I've learned that lesson. 🤪

In 1973 the 455 in my Pontiac had to be pulled and repaired because my idiot ex-brother had borrowed the car and stretched out a couple of rods while showing his girlfriend how much tire smoke it could develop. He's been a moron his entire life.

Anyway, after replacement of some parts, machining, and reassembly, it was on an engine hoist. I was rolling it across the concrete driveway, it hit a joint, and the oil pan incurred a custom modification. The boom had been extended to the max because the car had a long nose.

It was just a few inches above the surface when it tipped, so the only damage was the pan. I got a new one at the dealership, checked the oil pickup for any damage, and after reassembly the engine went back in the car.
