Anyone else see what's wrong here; besides the story of this poor bastard? There are actually two things wrong. One I think a lot of people will get, but only the hard core historians on here might be able to do some research and figure out the other issue. I actually happened to figure out the other problem with the sign when I dug further in to this person just for fun. The first issue I noticed as I was reading the sign.

Immigrated.

Nope. It is emigrated. I was wrong. Nevermind! 😁

Nope, that is actually correct. He emigrated here. Emigrate means to leave one's country to live in another. Immigrate is to come into another country to live permanently. Migrate is to move, like birds in the winter. The choice between emigrate, immigrate, and migrate depends on the sentence's point of view.

You guys will get it. Keep trying! My father noticed the second I showed him the photo as well!

Only thing I can see is in one sentence infantry and another sentence he’s in the cavalry. I am reading this on my phone you bouncing around in the truck so it’s kind of difficult. The other thing I notice is he was an old fucker wandering around in the desert if the dates are correct, FIIK😊

Is that a picture of a hat? If so, is it the correct one for that era?

If he was going to southern California he wouldn't have gone from Bakersfield to salt lake City

Well he promoted to a higher rank eventually moving to the Cavalry. However, you subconsciously caught the issue that is wrong but I am still not going to give it away.

It doesn't say he died during his emigration to California, only that he moved there. Then on a trip to SLC, he died.

The picture of the hat is a Civil War Infantry hat when he was a Cavalry Sergeant.

You guys are looking way too hard. He was both in the Infantry and Cavalry. Still nobody has found the issue. :(

Well damn, you actually caught the difficult one that I didn't think anyone would!!!!! However, nobody has caught the small error!

I searched his name, there are far more references to him as John J. than John G. How do you know it's wrong? Just curious now that you have me reading about him. lol

Well the actual grave says John G. The sign that has another error that nobody has got yet says John J. So that part of the equation I am not really sure about. However, nobody has caught the most blatant problem with the sign! :D

It's not the photo of the buckboard or hat. I am sure they just pulled those images off the net. However the main issue is pretty blatant.

I guess I’m just missing it, did it take him 52 years to get from New York to the place he died in Utah?🤷

OK! I give up as I just don't think anyone is going to say it!

CALVARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Calvary is a place outside of Jerusalem; or the evangelical Christian church. Cavalry is the horse back mounted soldiers! Now wouldn't you think they would have caught that on a sign in a heavily visited state park that sees 1000s of people a day? Well I guess not seeing the way all you guys are answering 😂😂😂😂

What is so funny, is a few of you guys mentioned Cavalry in your replies and actually referred to the correct spelling but were not directing that as the issue. 😂 😂

So simple, yet so easy to miss I guess! Thanks for playing and have a blessed and great day.

I am now more worried about you guys tying up your wife to the back of the boat and wandering around in the desert now after posting this.😂

I had a feeling the middle initial was wrong but didn’t take time to research further.
The misspelling proves in fact how we can naturally understand a sentence with errors.
.

Is he the reason the area is "Clark" county?

Would seem folks just have a real problem of getting much right while attempting to memorialize this poor guy. First the Name, being different on his memorial pacard versus the information board. Then his birth date is different on each, then the guy writing this article claims he died at age 67, when the placard date would have him at 72 and the information board at 71.

Of course over on Lake Mead the National's didn't fare much better, with Greggs Hideout and Gregg Basin, when the gentleman's name was Grigg. 😁
