I think asking price is just too high for buyers.

Or put another way there’s other places buyers are needing or willing to put the same money.

There’s a pretty good looking 240 Hallett for sale for like 75k. But it’s 21 years old and probably will need an interior/buff job/ motor & drive repair etc etc. So now it’s a 100-110k boat. For 150k I can go get a brand new equivalent.

I also believe that the new boat backlogs have reduced significantly. If you have the money you can go get a boat built.

Nordic to build me a 29 deck said 6-8 months. Their lack of communication from their sales guy just trying to talk pricing is why I bought used for 110k less

6-8 to start a build or 6-8 to complete?

I’m absolutely not defending them but I think the hand holding starts once the deposit clears. I’m sure they deal with tire kickers every day (not calling you one). I can’t even imagine how many buyers “could pay cash” but are going to do a loan. And then the builder finds out the buyer won’t qualify etc.

If you can find what you want on the used market you absolutely should. No need to pay extra unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

Parker Yamaha was pretty low on inventory compared to April when I was there.

Even after I bought used being part of the Nordic Family I asked the sales guy through email if he could put me in touch with someone to talk about best prop set up never even responded lol.

Feels to me like the people throwing around money just are not doing it any longer

Prices on things seem to have nosed over, esp on toys
I agree. The spending has slowed. This weekend compared to memorial felt dead on havasu. But I think the heat detoured a lot of people away. I think there is money to be spent still but people are more calculated with it and now there are deals to be had.

Maybe you need a new sales guy lol. I imagine they’d want to sell you the props.

I'm betting it was more the heat...

People have enough cash for gas and beer, its the new toys that are taking the hit. When people quit showing up on the weekends you know we're proper fucked

Aside from cash buyers who is excited in todays financial climate. 10% boat and rv loan rates, 7% home and auto rates.

Even if you could why would you buy right now. There are the Balllers and the yolo crowd that will always buy but for most responsible consumers it seems like a great time to hold steady.

Saw something today on instagram that relates lol.

In regards to real-estate.

“Buyers are expecting 2008 pricing”

“Sellers are expecting 2022 pricing”

“All realtors think they are on selling sunset”

Pretty spot on take, we also have an election coming up and that tends to keep folks on the fence as things play out. I know we’re not making any big moves on anything for a while, at best a few nice trips over the next 2 years.

For the people that finance their toys, how much of the purchase are they financing? Over 50%?

This is pretty accurate!

This is also an election year. All markets slow as we get closer and closer to the election. After the election, half the people say....my guy won, let's go buy a home! The other half will say, my guy lost, but I can't wait another 4 years so let's go buy a home. There is usually a push after the election, but not sure yet as how big that will be. The affordability index doesn't show trouble, but from what I am seeing people just can't afford much right now.

As for toys, the buyers are all lowballers from what I can tell. From what I am told, most of the buyers all throw out numbers of half of what the asking price is. Also, the sellers want COVID prices. I don't think we are seeing much as far as sales right now. It's a stalemate! When/If sellers start hurting, we will see the volume of sales go up. Credit Card debt is at a high, but I don't think we have hit defaults yet.

To a point that’s very true. But I never heard a kid brag about how much interest their parents saved instead of making memories.

I’m taking it up the rear on my Toyhauler loan but those memories are worth it.
Life could be much worse.
To an extent I agree with you but say these 230k boats dcb f32s that have been sitting all season finance at 10%. That monthly is much more than your Toyhauler

If ya want it gone, you need to price it appropriately. I'll be losing my ass on my boat and river trailer in about a month here...but I bet it'll be gone in less than a week.
Sometimes just having stuff gone is worth the money loss, if it was owned outright. It could be replaced later. FWIW if something I'm getting rid of won't sell for over $500 I just toss it.

I couldn’t imagine buying a brand new boat. Depreciation the first 3 years is outrageous. Clean, older and for cash has always seemed to be the ticket for us. Wait for a good deal and it will come. Our recent boat purchase was at 20% less than asking.

While all boats are losers based on maintenance costs alone, in 30 years we’ve never sold a boat for less than we paid for it.

Every accurate statement. Then add in an election year and folks are hesitant to purchase.

Then again, I said F it.
Wife and I were going to wait 3 years before we get a new RV. Then a friend said “new prices are going up 15-20k a year and your current stuff will not be worth as much in three years”. Called around and found a 2024 we liked. We were going to go used, but could not find what we wanted. When we did find something we lIked, owners wanted more then the new one. Do I like the interest rate, hell no. Will I refinance the loan using a personal loan in a couple years when rates are lower = hell yes.

Will we run it and get memories before our daughter no longer wants to travel with mom and dad = F yes!

Then the biggest reason we did it. My dad retired at 70, at 75 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and he no longer can do what he thought he would do in retirement :( When I saw him two weeks ago, he told me “Spend the money now and make memories with your family. Don’t work forever, BUT don’t want until you retire to do what you want”.

I have been checking the Eliminator Speedster market both new and used recently. Most used want pretty damn close to new prices with 100 hrs on them. If you put a deposit down now for a new build it will be two years before you have a boat. People still seem to have money (at the high end), at least until I go to sell something (on the medium end), making it hard to move up.

Baller!

Dang I'm over here recycling cans and bottles because I hate throwing away money.
It's not like I'm buying stuff just to turn around and throw it away. From over the years of selling stuff for extra money (<$500) it has always been a headache and cost me money a few times. Losing out on extra money isn't a big deal to me. People wasting my time is. Those under $500 items just bring out the losers. Had a guy spend 2 hours inspecting a Kona bicycle. I was asking $120 for it. It was a $1400 bike new...

18'10" lavey craft mod VP outboard w/ an old 200hp merc on it. Looks good from 20ft. I'll take $5K. Also have a Heartland Tundra 31BH trailer...2 slides, sleeps 8, queen bedroom up front and twin/skinny top bunk in the back. Stickers are pealing off of it but aside from that it's in great shape. Paid $13K beginning of last season, asking $9K for it.

My dad worked his ass off all his life to build the perfect retirement. Retired at 65 house paid off had all these plans for hunting trips, vacations with my mom, etc. He was diagnosed with a rare form of rheumatoid fibrosis at 65 1/2 and was bed ridden on 02 within 6 months then passed not too long after. He said the same to my brother and I not to wait for retirement to buy things and enjoy things you want to do.

I'm almost 52 now and it has really been an eye opener thinking that is less that 15 years away for me. Hopefully I do not have his issues but one never knows. Spending a little extra to enjoy life and make memories with kids and family are PRICELESS. Tomorrow is never a guarantee.

Ive noticed that. Seems like people build them and move on quick. Same like the sand rail scene.
With high end sandrails its almost cheaper to build new after a couple years due to the cost to go through the trans and all wear items. Sell for what you almost paid for it and have a fresh new one built. They might lose some money but for the price of having something fresh and new it worth it to them. When times are good its easy to do.
