A little something to keep some life in this forum.

Inco 718, running 2600 SFM, 50 IPM, 4 flute tool. 6-8 minutes of tool life before indexing insert.

For those that don't know machining Inco with carbide your SFM range is generally between 120-200 SFM. I've ran as high as about 280 SFM with carbide in milling applications but that is rare.

So milling at 2600-3000 SFM with ceramic is a massive improvement in machine time but you burn through inserts with a tool life average of 6-8 minutes before indexing the insert, so we have multiple cutters set up so we can index inserts while the other cutter is running. If we have multiple machines running ceramic we'll go through a couple hundred inserts in a day.

If using a high feed shell mill with carbide insert in the same application the insert usage is similar but the metal removal rate is 5X slower.
