So my wife comes up the idea of taking the kids to the Drive In tonight. I first asked if we could leave them at home and take a trip down memory lane.. Needless to say we are here as a family having a great time. I have a kid on one side of me and my Glock on the other!

Not a lot of kids out there know what the drive-in is! Good for you showing your kids a little bit of Americana :thumbsup

Winnetka, Van Nuys and Sepulveda.
Mainly went to Winnetka later on since Sepulveda and van Nuys seemed to start having some gang issues.

Remember going? I still go. Ours is seasonal spring/summer. The best is you can bring in outside snacks. Pizza, sneak some beer, its an awesome time.

Yup, used to go all the time. Now most of the drive-ins I see are open air swap meets.

I went to the drive in so often with my family. When I was about 8, I went with my neighbors to see Smokey & The Bandit one night. I was shocked when they went to the Theater. Up until that point, I thought theaters were only for if you wanted to see a movie during daylight hours. True Story!!

Long Beach, Lakewood, Los Altos was my personal favorite.
Went to the one in Sacramento once.
Whenever I told my Dad I was taking a date to the Drive In, he'd say, "headed to the old passion pit, eh?
Hard to keep a straight face when he did that.
If they mowed down about half the damn shopping malls and replaced them with 4-plex drive-ins it would be fine with me.

I remember seeing Jaws at the drive in when I was pretty young. That movie scared the shit out of me. Couldn't swim in the dark for years. Lol.

Big Sky drive-in, Duarte. Right across the street they had a little mini golf course, and a big slide. Good times.

The van buren drive-in theater & swap meet Is still up and running! Swap meets are held every tuesday, thursday, saturday & sundays now and you really don't need to bring your glock, but Jumper cables are a good idea.

The wife made me go buy a popcorn machine and brown paper bags before we went
She said it reminded her of when she was a kid. We did the same thing but also stopped at The Hamburger Stand in Rialto and loaded up on .25 burgers before we went in.

When young and living in Redondo I watched Snow White at the Torrance drive in and Fritz the Cat at the Century, the Rodium for swap meets. I've been to plenty while living in the Oc. for 32 years but never to the Parker drive in.

Fixed it for ya.
Used to go in our 4x4s and had to park in the last row. We'd line up 5 or 6 trucks, sit in the back in our low chairs or bags and ice chests. i still have a speaker or 2 and the sign they had on the last row "HIGH VEHICLES ONLY".

Always parked backwards in the back row, the back doors usually got closed halfway through the movie! ;)

Yep. Went one weekend and saw a buddy w/ his gf a couple rows behind us. Noticed that his windows were a bit foggy so I very quietly opened the hood on his car. Hood stayed up for quite a while, apparently he was was not paying attention. :D

Spent a lot of time at the drive-in's. We had four in this town. I found out the speakers were a 70 volt system with a kick down transformer in the speaker box and a 8 ohm L-pad for volume. You couldn't get the speaker box open because they would glue over the tops of the screws. Being Go-Fly and shit, I would roll the coil speaker cord between my fingers until I could feel the two wires. Then I would stick two straight pens, one through each wire. Two roach clips with shielded wire down to a line transformer, a small buffer circut and into my Rally 8-track player with Kraco speakers. I had good sound out of all four speakers, no stereo being a mono input. If it was hot, we would lay on the hood and I had a pair of remote speakers that set on the roof. Good times for sure.:D

Still go...there is a drive in about 2 miles from my river house and another one about 10 miles from the house on the other side of the river.

Great summer time entertainment.
