As some of you know, my Daughter plays National Travel Volleyball.

For the last 4 years she has played travel for Club SoCal and prior to that played 2 years of Future Stars at the club.

For the 2023-2024 travel season she was on the 12-1 team for SoCal. But for the 2024 fall ball season, the SoCal coaches dropped her down and she ended up on the SoCal 13-2 fall ball team. That not only upset her, but she took the anger and dedicated herself to improvement.

For the 24-25 travel season, she wanted to push herself and tryout at Club Wave (#1 in CA and top 5 in Nation), Club Coast (top 5 in CA & Nation) and SoCal (top 35 in CA, unranked at a National level).

Day 1 results are in and she got the following bids last night!
- Coast 13-3 - Libero #1
- Coast 13-2 - Libero #2 (could play to #1)

Day 2 bids are arriving now
- Wave 13-4 - Libero #1 (she turned that down, the 4 team does not play for USAJr or AAU Nationals)
- SoCal 13-1 - Libero #2 (she turned that down, for some reason the team this year is not playing for USAJr os AAU Nationals)

She is pumped and I am a proud dad.
My wife has all the volleyball photos.
Best photo I have of her is learning to drive the boat on daddy/daughter lake weekend

Awesome - Congrats! As a parent, it's a good feeling to see your kid try for something and succeed. I think things like that help to build confidence which is a great life skill to have, especially for daughters

That's great! Sometimes a little bit of anger can be a great motivator. What's the saying? Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?
I hope she has a great season!

Volleyball is awesome and ultra competitive.

Two of my co-workers daughters have all gone to college on scholarships for it.

One co-worker moved to Vegas (He’s National accounts so can live anywhere) just to support his three daughters volleyball efforts. It’s the Mecca of volleyball supposedly 🤷‍♂️

The socal area and Vegas have some of the best programs in the country.

The co-worker that moved to Vegas, all three of his daughters were on scholarship, so I believe it. Massive tournaments can be hosted there with the available venue’s Vegas has.

The other co-worker his daughter went on scholarship to Marquette. She’s 6 foot and looked like a midget on that team lol. I’ve never seen woman that tall before lol.

Super cool for your daughter. It’s a great sport, congrats!

That's awesome, she took advantage of the opportunity to prove them wrong. Seems their coaching was her only limitation. Good for her in character, personal strength and self confidence. What does all that 12-1, 13-2 stuff mean? Liberio? Setter? Inside/outside hitter?
I loved playing v-ball but never had any coaching/training. I learned from friends playing p/u games at the park etc. @ about 22 of yrs age. I aspired to decent. Lol I played until my back said no more after a block @ a indoor tourney. I miss it, great game.

thanks

12-1 = 12year old team, highest ranked team in gym

usually the 1 and 2 teams play and try to win a bid to nationals and play in a more competitive division
the 3 and down teams play in a less competitive division and travel is limited.

this year, my daughter will play in Vegas, KC, maybe Reno and Salt Lake, then the year end tournament could be in KC (USA Jr Volleyball Championship), Orlando (AAU National Championship) or Phoenix (VolleyFest).

Thank you for the clarification on that. Developing those skills at that young age will definitely set her up well for future play. I imagine by the time they get to high school, college etc. They're well familiar with each other across the nation and how skilled they play. That must be pretty cool as a parent to observe all these kids grow up through the sport and see where they end up as young adults. Congratulations on having a good, talented and driven daughter.

Daughter made her decision
Coast 13-2 - Libero #2

Time to pay the deposit, submit the uniform order and get a new club backpack
Congrats Dad!

It’s my daughter’s 2nd year playing VB and just made the 12 primer team for Rancho.

Paid the deposit today and it seems inflation hit there too. Ha ha ha

Also got the schedule and there goes some holiday weekends. Got to cancel some camping trips.

Desert season gets F’d with volleyball.
In looking at the SCVA calendar, veterans and MLK are open!

Congrats to your daughter!
Both my daughters played travel vball from 9-17. Those were some of the best times and memories of my life, hopefully theirs too. Some incredibly important life lessons learned during those seasons. And we still have an unlimited supply of club backpacks.
You are right when you say that travel vball is a desert trip killer though
Good luck with the season!

Good decision I'd say. Coast was a good club even in my daughters club & highschool playing years.
