Our Spa is about 1000 gallons. Heating 1000 gallons of water to 102 is a lot of gas. It takes 90 minutes to get to temp. If you want to play it costs.

Clearly SoCal gas has been paying close attention to the gasoline providers....

This is from their site

Yep feeling it here. 2019 single story high hers rating, tankless water heater, 2600sqft, no pool, barely run heater mainly only at night so the kids dont get cold.
Jan 2022 54$ , this year January 215$, projected next bill 305$. According to my thermostat heater ran an average 1.25 hours a day in January

We heat our spa at least once if not twice/ 3 times a week.
Previous bill was 59. The bill I got today was 170.
Jacuzzi is 700 gallons I’d guess. 8 ft round by 3 1/2 4 ft deep. Goes from 51 degrees to 103 in About 45 minutes.
I guess I should be thankful my house hearing is no longer gas. House is kept at 64. Bump the heat to take the chill off once and awhile

That seem like a long Fn time to heat it up.

SoCal Gas says "55 degress" is great for night sleeping...
I’m down to keeping the house no warmer than 60 while we are here during the day and at night and when we are out it’s down to 50.

Haven’t gotten my latest gas bill but I’m dreading it after reading this thread.

I run electric blankets on the beds.

This is Carters energy policy all over again. (Wear a sweater if you’re cold.)

I couldn’t do that for life of me. I’d be burning up.
Our house is kept low 60s. And I still am in boxers only. Window open. Foot out. Lol.
I only use them to warm the bed so its not cold when I jump in. I dont run them while I'm in the bed (at least not normally, only when I'm sick sometimes). But I only warm the bed on the lowest setting. I only do this in winter. The rest of the year I dont turn them on.

I hate flannel sheets (which would be warmer than regular sheets). So I dont want to jump into an ice cold bed.

We keep our house at 68 all year round. But in the Winter,
we turn down the heater to 66 before bedtime, been sleeping better since.

I get it. Just the opposite for me though. I like in a weird way hopping in cold bed and having it warm up. Then I’m like fuck. To warm. Kick off the covers a bit put foot out. Then repeat the process. Lol. I know I know. TMI.

Heater goes off when we hit the sack and turned on when I get up to shower. Turned back off when I leave to work. 2000 sq ft/2-story in the High Desert where it gets much colder than down the mtn. $245.00 this month

Pool/Spa

I heat spa every night..

Recent bill $600 - (WTF)

so much for retirement..LOL

what ya got

Gas wont go down for a while - and electricity will just keep rising. This is just the start.

There are really only two ways you end being able to marginalize an ever increasing set of bills on two fronts.
Owning a pool/ spa you heat complicates this problem beyond house heat.
You may not have the roof space or orientation available- but if you do.

1. Solar PV (electricity) generation - door on this is about closed -you have until april or you're fucked.

Solar lets you offset the gas heating bill with heat pumps, or electric room heaters.

2. Solar pool/ spa heating- you preheat the spa during the day off the roof and have it carry the heat into the night and you dont have to pay move the temp as far when you want to you it because its part way there to start with.
There is no time limit on this like the NEM 2 PV contract - and I used my pool and spa 10X after installing this.

solar electricity mitigates the pump running on high to drive the solar water performance (the faster the flow the more efficient the transfer) , and of course the roof displaces the bill for the gas or electric pool heater

These are expensive up front - but make the whole thing work in the long haul.

Looks like things have gone back to normal in SoCal. My last two gas bills have been right around $11.... Pretty cheap.. Can barely get a beer for that, lol

I’m on a level pay plan. Paying 74 bucks a month.

Building up the credit for the winter coming up.

…Mine was $21.19…in NoHo… the only reason it was that much is because I run the hot water faucet for quite a while every morning so I can have my instant coffee🤷🏽‍♀️

OR home is $10.48 last few months.
NV home is $41.64 last month.
Both homes have gas furnace, stove and WH--only difference is a family of 4 lives in NV home while 4 college girls live in OR home and only 1 of them knows how to cook on a stove.

Now electric, being in the summer time is higher than gas. NV home was $223 last month and can drop to around $80 in the winter and gas peaks at about $180 Dec-Feb
OR gas bill only got to $95 during the winter months and the Electric bill is combined with water/sewer--it averages between $120-230/mo

2400 sq ft LHC home. Last month, which included one week with the one 2 Ton AC down, our elec bill was $444, an all time high for us. Although, when the one AC was down, the loaner 1 Ton unit ran 24/7 plus a number of fans, also 24/7. Anxious to see our next bill. We keep our temp at 77. Wife wishes we had a gas stove. But, we’re all electric.

In AZ we get free hot water during the summer so our gas bill was $37 today.
You must be on the low income program. Last two months gas bill in so cal was $20 and $18. Electric $300 plus AC went down yesterday so I opened up all the windows and used fans it was 73 downstairs and 76 upstairs this morning 5 miles from ocean

Haha, We get free hot water because its 110+deg everyday so thats all we get out of the tap is hot water!!! I was at the boat storage condo yesterday and I chaecked the cold water temp and even after running for about 15 minutes, it was 100 deg straight out of the tap!!!
