How does this happen, i've been running these things for a decade now and have never heard or seen anything like this potentially happening. (and we've done some super sketchy shit with these things. Leaf blower in the intake makes for some action)

Burning oil?? Moisture is bad for them. I’ve used smudge pots for 15 years only had one boil and was burning oil.

Use mine weekly in winter and stick to straight gas and camping I’ll mix some diesel in as it burns longer.

Go on ig look up smudgepotusa he sells used ones and inspects them thoroughly sent a few there who were pretty happy.

Burning oil?? Moisture is bad for them. I’ve used smudge pots for 15 years only had one boil and was burning oil.

IMO oil sucks I know a few use it. Yes it can burn good but it’s just makes a mess inside with sludge and smells like shit when you shut it off. Then again the moisture in oil can cause boils or even if it gets burning to hot.

Why I stick to gas or diesel. And gas burns clean and safe and easy to light up with some common sense.

This happened to me once, it was operator error. The pot was kicking ass then it started to slow down and soon after it was like molten lava pouring out of it. I'm sure what happened was there was some residual water left over in the pot after cleaning it out and it started to boil. What a mess

diesel fuel only for me. one of my buddies was burning used oil in his, he had crazy issues with buildup in the pot.

This makes sense, water is heavier and sinks to the bottom, bottom of the pot takes the longest to get hot (farthest away from combustion), water vapor has to boil through hotter and hotter oil as it rises toward that combustion (and oil has a much higher boiling point than the water which will create violent boiling) leading to greater and greater expansion as it climbs through that progressively hotter oil....

Gasoline has a much lower boiling point so the water trapped in the bottom can never boil in a gasoline pot.

I had a buddy put his cooking oil in his after thanksgiving dinner and it boiled over and shooting out like a volcano to.i believe it was from the water from the turkeys

I’ve left mine out in rain.went to bed and it suddenly rained. But anyhow like said I’ll burn gas mostly and next night I heard crackle and pop I closed holes and let it burn slower never boiled out though. Just kept it low and it was fine.

With the oil I didn’t get that just a crackle and shit was overflowing

How many people would want a smudge pot? I think i found a bunch in nor cal i would be willing to drive up and get them if we could make it worth the trip. I wanted 4 and I see two other people maybe wanted 2 each is that all?

You would want to make sure someone has gone through all of them. Otherwise they have pin holes in the bottom and all kinda of build up so they stink. Its worth buying ones that have been pulled apart, cleaned and inspected. If they havent been you need to buy several more then you need so you have parts.

The guy in Rialto is around $160 a unit.

I would be interested in two at the moment, but can't really justify the brand new $319 each price tag. $100 each makes it more attractive, but then you have to worry about cleaning it and inspecting/replacing bad parts. I'll probably give the Rialto guy a call this coming week.
