So.... over the last year my jobsite has been broken into like 6 times. 3 times my jobbox has been pryed open and lost all my power tools.

One of my journeyman bought a camera with a sim card / cell service and mounted it in his tool box.

In the last week we have caught 2 guys stealing shit during work hours. Guys we work side by side with.

We have had lunch boxes stolen. Back packs. Tools. Red bulls. You name it.

Both these guys are like the fireman's right hand man too.

Like the sticker says
Keep your dick beaters off my tools!

Wow! I grew up around roofers and roofing in general. Pretty much convicts, alcoholics and people society avoids in general. Didn't matter, they were my family. (Sometimes literally 😂)

I think someone may have grabbed the last beer, and I think I lost a couple hook blades, but hell, never even lost as much as a hammer.

It's a sad day when the more "respectable" trades start having issues :(

Tools walk off. It is a fact of having things. Lazy fuckers with no honor or integrity.

Nice work by your Journeyman !Great idea and hopefully it makes others think twice about it . Nothing worse then get tools taken but even worse when you find out it was from guys working besides you. Typically our Jobsite’s get hit in the middle of the night on long weekends.

I am sure those two guys will have to work far from home to even hold a job since it won’t take long for them to be noticed/recognized. 👍🏼

Fire them and dock their last check with the full retail price of the tools they stole. Terrible. No integrity

I don't think you can dock their pay. You can offer them the opportunity to replace the tools or you will press charges.
Then fire them. Then put up more cameras!

It would really suck if one of those RedBulls were sprinkled with Fentanyl.

Thieves suck.............. Fire them! When I was a teenager my parents wouldn't buy our smokes. So got a job in a unisex clothing store chain. We had some college students doing an internship on merchandising. The store checked our bags when we left for the day. One of the interns put a $18 T-shirt under the shirt he was wearing. The tag was sticking out and the manager caught him. He was charged for petty theft and kicked out of college.

Funny thing is we had to wear the stores brand of clothes for work. Therefore they gave us a 75% discount on the clothes.

How is it handled with a union shop? Can you fire the guy, or can they have the hall defend them?
If it's another trade, do you have to talk with their super, and hope they do something about it?

Have you confronted them yet?
I contacted the main super for the general contractor for both guys. They were escorted off the jobsite and stripped of their badges to get back on campus. Unfortunately they work for different company's than I do so I don't know what their bosses did. Both guys will never be allowed on this general contractors jobs again.

Reduction in force if they work for us and we need a reason to lay someone off. If the business agent calls me cause someone was stupid enough to file a grievance, then I'll tell them the real reason they can't work for us anymore.

Another company, the GC will have them removed from the project and it's up to the company they work for to deal with the rest.

Had this happen on a few occasions on our crews in the past. Always made sure we had an officer there that was fully briefed on the situation before we presented the option of returning the items, or covering the replacement costs to the thief in front of the entire crew or charges would be pressed. This was a union shop and the Steward was fully aware of the situation and we never had an issue union wise. Everyone of them chose to make it right and pick up their last check.

It was a shame that people that you work side by side with could let down their “brothers”.

Would they get kicked out of the Union?

No. All I know was that I never had to worry about them being dispatched to one of our jobs again. Word gets around so I’m pretty sure other contractors placed them on their no dispatch list as well though.
