My kid has shown some interest in wanting a slot car track. I had one when I was a kid and spent many hrs with it. I would like to keep it under $100.
Anyone have any good reccomendations ? I dont need all the fancy loops or things like that.

Had a AFX track that we set up in my dad’s den when I was in high school filled a whole sheet of plywood! He said we’d keep it in there for a week then move it to the Barn. It never made it to the barn and the races got HEATED! I would catch him practicing when he didn’t think I was home!

Similar deal, ours was probably 3 sheets and was on pullies that was above the cars in the garage. When I started getting better Dad said I couldn't practice without him😅

Mom stepped in and let us kids play.

This thread brings back memories, I think I just faintly remembered the smell of the cars/tracks when everything started heating up. Then maybe getting burned if you grabbed a car in the wrong place after a heated race/battle?

Damn, I guess you know your slot cars! Nice
Growing up, I absolutely loved cars, in high school mid 90's city I grew up in La Verne, a gentleman opened a slot car store and it was my first time experiencing it. I used to go and race, and the community, the comradery, was just amazing. They closed down just because slot cars are just not a big money maker. I loved the LeMans, the stories behind the 24 hours and as I grew up, I knew I can't afford any of the race cars. I told my wife "babe, we have to get a slot car track for the kids" she said yes! Hahahah Then the journey began! It is so much fun seeing my kids friends now come over and the kids eyes lighting up. The track is speed controlled, so when we have new kids, we slow it down so the cars remain "on" the track lol. It's alot of fun! Each car has it's own driving characteristics. We have an 8 and a 6 year old and seeing them work on the cars, replace the tires, oil up the braids, it gives me hope that we can still have young ones learn how to "wrench" on their own stuff. And it brings a bit of my nostalgia back from my younger years.

Come on bonesfab, you could make an RDP slot car track...
I still have all my old Afx stuff from childhood plus some that I found on ebay for sentimental sake. I put one together every once and while. Just not enough room. There was a museum in Oxnard that closed down and they had a full on one from slotmods they were trying to sell for like 50k. Badass but a bit much for a toy set.

I showed this to my wife because she’s talked about her grandpa buying her a slot car in the late ‘50s. She said she still has her orange Manta Ray packed away somewhere. There were no tracks at home in those days, but her grandpa would take her to a slot car track in Bell, CA.

There were two tracks in Downey. Don's raceway over on Downey Ave and Archery Lanes on Imperial hwy. I spent a good deal of time at both places.

There was one in San Gabriel as well. I probably spent way too much money there too.

Fun stuff. 👍🏼

Steer clear of Auto World Track, Go with AFX Track. They are interchangable, but AFX is far better quality
The Auto World cars aren't too bad (the tolerances are a bit sloppy) but they have a huge variety of cars. Their "4 gear" cars hug the track incredibly well. Most AFX tracks come with a "Tri-Power" transformer with beginner, intermediate and pro settings

are the two on the right side in the middle towards the bottom Datsun 510s?

These are the Ford Escorts but I'm very tempted to get the 510's they are beautiful as well! #20 Was a British rally car driver Roger Clark and Jim Porter. They try to replicate the cars very close to the race version.

Try this place, I purchased one of the GO slot cars for the grandkids a couple years ago still going strong no problems and they have very good prices, and will assist if you have questions on the different types of tracks cars, etc. ………https://www.carreraslots.com/
