any recommendations on sliding gate motors? I see some on amazon from around 200-300 bucks, and then on other sites from around 800-1500?? It doesn't seem like the pricier ones have that much more features?

I guess the biggest thing I'm looking for is one that opens fast, due to the gate being around 25' long, and I'm sure it's over 1k lbs. I also need 2 motors, because of a horse shoe style driveway.

Just installed a chain drive $150 one off eBay.
Opens quickly and remotes work from a distance.
Really easy to install and wire as well.
Good luck

You get what you pay for with them. I installed a cheaper one around $600 should of spent the $1500. Every few months would need adjusting or would stop short. Now it just stays open it lasted maybe 5 years.

I have a Ramset 100, I think it was around $1000 and I've had no issues in 3 years of owning it.

I contracted all the Flat work, wiring, and also did welding and Fabrication of gates for A-1 Automatic about 9-10 years ago. All he used were Ramset Gate Operator/Motors, they are made in the USA, and have a 7 year commercial, and 10 year residential warranty on their operators. and we rarely if ever had to warranty anything and had little if No problems at all. rarely have to adjust them either. so if you have the money, they are well worth the additional expense.

I have an Elite with a battery back up if the power goes out. I wanted the battery back incase I wasn't around and my wife was there by herself and had to leave! It opens automaticly if the electricity goes out for more than 5 min... There is also a self crank tool if you need to open it manually. It's been 16 years not one problem so far!

I'm a licensed, fabricator and installing dealer for Liftmaster, Ramset, All o matic etc. I've been in the controlled access business since 1988.
There are many important factors beyond simply moving a gate that effect the safety and reliability of a controlled access system. You have mentioned two of them. Additionally, there are new industry implemented codes and standards that were placed into effect last year that effect how the new gate operator systems work. They now have inherent entrapment control system built into them meaning the operator won't work if the system is not installed and completed correctly. These gate systems can be very dangerous if not designed and installed properly, including all the necessary safety devices to protect people from getting hurt by large, heavy gates as you have described yours to be. Many people have lost fingers, hands, arms and even been killed by automatic operating slide and swing gate systems, hence the new industry implemented standards and control systems. The cheaper operators you are seeing may be able to move the gate but based on your description of your gates they certainly wont last long doing it and that's under the best circumstances. You may be able to pull a 24' Hallet with a 1977 Toyota truck but it won't last too long and certainly won't do it safely or under control. If I can be of any further assistance to you please feel free to call me on my cell phone listed below.
