Anyone going out for the ShootOut tomorrow? We’re planning on hitting the water at 9:00ish. Dropping the anchors somewhere near the finish line.

Guess I wasn’t paying attention. I actually have never paid attention to the shootout as it’s always a half assed event. Just doesn’t work in havasu. Definitely doesn’t work when you don’t actually take the time to ensure your equipment is correctly calibrated. By the way, not difficult to ensure a radar gun is calibrated prior to the event. There’s places that do it such as the radar shop in Kansas. Blows my mind they had this issue previously and let it happen again. What a circus.

Do they use the same radar guns every year? Do they throw them in the box until the next shootout? It's not like you need some high power space laser. Hell, every speeding ticket I've received came from a calibrated unit...pretty sure they exist. 10-20% off is a big deal I'd think.

Most boaters could tell it was way wrong during the shootout, I would assume many of the staff are boaters themselves. Why didn’t it get corrected during the shootout is my question.

At least they owned up to their mistake, I can appreciate the honesty.

Most if not all these boats have GPS speedos now. Just have a DS event person board the boat prior to the run and reset the recall switch. Then run the run, and the next DS organizer boards the boat and hits the recall switch and presto, the actual accurate speed.

How fucking hard do they have to make this?

In the other thread he said he had 4 GPS’s in the boat and I think he said they were all within a couple miles per hour of the DS Radar speed posted. Seams really fast to me. I thought that boat was built with a Merc 600 if I remember right. Just assumed he had re-powered with the numbers he said was correct.

I was texting in real time with a buddy when instagram said he ran 140. We were both laughing what a fucking joke it was. 😂

He said all his GPS’s were within a couple of MPH of each other and the shootout radar was off.
